How Much Snow Will Stoneham Get Tuesday?

A messy wintry mix will slam Massachusetts starting Monday night and lasting through the day on Tuesday.

It'll be a tough commute on Tuesday morning, as yet another storm blows through Stoneham and Massachusetts starting Monday night and lasting throughout the following day. The current forecast from the National Weather Service (NWS) says Stoneham will see 3 to 7 inches of snow: 2 to 4 inches falling Monday night, and another 1 to 3 inches on Tuesday morning. The storm could switch between rain and snow—with the rain quickly freezing over on roadways—before becoming all rain after 1 p.m. on Tuesday, which should see a high temperature of 38 degrees. The wind could also gust at high as 38 miles per hour. Rain and snow showers will continue into the evening hours on Tuesday, according to the NWS, which issued a Winter Storm Warning in effect …

Minor Stream and Street Flooding Possible Tuesday

Rain combined with melting snow from the storm at the end of last week could cause minor flooding in streams Tuesday afternoon and evening, the National Weather Service said.

After the winter we've had so far, the warmer weather to start the week has been a welcome respite, but could cause flooding problems when rain passes through the area on Tuesday. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flood watch for Stoneham and much of Eastern and Central Massachusetts, in effect from Tuesday afternoon until Wednesday morning. Up to an inch of rainfall is expected on Tuesday, which combined with melting snow from the storm at the end of last week could cause some small streams to experience minor flooding, the NWS said. "Poor drainage street flooding is likely Tuesday afternoon and evening, especially where snow is blocking catch basins," the NWS said in the food watch statement. "This could have an impact on …

Snow in Stoneham: Current Predictions

Stoneham could get anywhere from three to eight inches of snow, according to Thursday morning forecasts.

Snowfall predictions for the current snow storm hitting Stoneham have varied over the past 24 hours. At first forecasters said the area could receive four to eight inches of snow. Later on Wednesday, those predictions were downgraded to a few inches of wet snow, and some forecasters said Stoneham would get mostly rain. Thursday morning, the picture has changed again, with expected snow totals rising again—something anyone in Stoneham looking out the window could confirm. Here are the latest snowfall predictions from a handful of local forecasters: What's more, forecasters agree this storm will last through Thursday night and into Friday, so pay attention to possible school closures and traffic headaches on Friday.

Will Stoneham Get Snow From this Storm?

A long-duration storm is knocking on the city's door, but most local meteorologists expect little snow in the Boston area.

Stoneham's in for some wet weather Wednesday through Friday, according to local forecasts, but despite early warnings of around a half of foot of snow, don't get out your snow shovels yet. For Boston, the local weather teams aren't predicting very much snow. Instead, expect a lot of rain and maybe some heavy slushy snow in spots. While areas inland may get a half a foot of snow, Boston's bigger concern is the three high tides during this storm.  Flooding may become an issue along the immediate coast. The National Weather Service, which on Tuesday forecast 4-8 inches of snow in Stoneham with the caveat that there was "still some uncertainty with snowfall amounts," has tempered its forecast to 2-4 inches. Here are the latest forecasts from …

Stoneham Braces For Another Snow Storm

Another 4 to 8 inches of snow could fall in Stoneham starting Wednesday night through Friday morning, according to forecasters, as another storm heads towards southern New England.

Punxsutawney Phil's prognostication back on Groundhog Day for an early spring is increasingly looking like a cruel joke on the public. Stoneham could see between 4 and 8 inches of snow starting Wednesday night through Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service (NWS), which issued a winter storm watch on Tuesday night. "There is still some uncertainty with snowfall amounts, but this storm will have a significant impact on southern New England," the NWS said.  The forecast calls for a chance of rain showers during the day on Wednesday, as the high temperature will hover near 42 degrees with a steady northeast wind between 13 and 21 miles per hour and gusts as high as 36 miles per hour. But as the temperature drops overnight, …

S'No More! 3-7 Inches of Snow Saturday Into Sunday

Stoneham could see around a half a foot of more snow Saturday night into Sunday.

There are still huge snowbanks everywhere from the Blizzard of '13, even after moderate temperatures this week, but Old Man Winter isn't done with Stoneham yet. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory in effect until Sunday at 1 p.m. for a storm that will pass through the area starting Saturday night. The forecast calls for 1-3 inches of snow on Saturday night and another 2-4 inches on Sunday, mainly before 4 p.m. Visibility won't be great either, as winds could gust as high as 43 mph on Sunday, blowing the snow around and producing wind chill values as low as -2 on Sunday night. The gusty winds will continue on Presidents Day, which will be sunny with a high near 32 but wind chill values as low as -4.

Blizzard Warning Issued for Stoneham

White out conditions are expected as the storm intensifies.

What began as a blizzard watch for the Stoneham area has now been upgraded to a blizzard warning.  The National Weather Service issued the warning for the majority of Eastern Massachusetts Thursday afternoon, as it anticipates about 2 feet of snow to descend upon the area Friday into Saturday. "White out conditions are anticipated as roads become snow-covered by the Friday evening commute," the warning states. "Strong north-northeast winds are anticipated with gusts up to around 60 miles per hour, resulting in blowing and drifting of snow. Damage to trees and structures along with scattered power outages are anticipated." Residents can expect the potential of snow falling at 3-to-4 inches per hour and wind gusts of more than 20 miles per …

Stoneham Preps for Blizzard of '13

Residents are asked to remove all cars from the streets, shovel the sidewalk in front of their house if possible, and to not plow snow in the driveway onto the sidewalks.

The Stoneham Department of Public Works is fully prepped for this weekend's blizzard, and DPW Director Robert Grover is asking residents to do their part and get cars off the street for plowing and to avoid plowing snow in driveways onto sidewalks. "If you can, shovel the sidewalk in front of your house and please, if you have a driveway plow, do not plow in the sidewalk area," Grover said. "There will be sidewalk plows out there—they will be coming out after the plow trucks." The DPW has a full salt shed and sand-salt mix ready to go, the trucks are all fueld up and blades have been mounted on all the trucks, Grover said. There are also food supplies coming in for the workers, given that most restaurants and stores will likely be closed …
