Police: Remote Key Ignited Vapors Causing Car Explosion

WHDH reported that vapors coming from plumbing equipment in the car's truck caused an explosion in the BJ's Wholesale Club parking lot on Sunday afternoon.

Flammable vapors were accidentally ignited by a remote car key, causing a car to explode in the BJ's Wholesale Club parking lot on Sunday afternoon, WHDH reports.  Stoneham Police received multiple 911 calls around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday about the explosion, according to an emailed statement from Stoneham Police. Police officers and firefighters found a 2012 Honda Civic "badly damaged" by the explosion, with parts from the car strewn throughout the parking lot and two damage to two other vehicles parked nearby. The Honda was parked and unoccupied at the time of the explosion and no one was injured. The Massachusetts State Police bomb squad responded along with the state Fire Marshal's Office to investigate.  "After interviewing witnesses and …

Stoneham Dad Charged With OUI After Trying to Pick Up Kids From School

Police say 46-year-old father tried to pick up his two children from two separate schools in Salem while driving drunk (his second offense).

Police allege a Stoneham man was intoxicated when he tried to pick up his two children from school in Salem Friday afternoon. Thomas W. Gallant, 46, of Stoneham, was subsequently arrested on his second offense of drunk driving, according to WCVB. Salem police responded to Kiddie Koop Child Care Center on Foster Street at 2:01 p.m. after receiving word that a man there was trying to pick up his daughter while drunk. Police then took Gallant into custody on the OUI charge. And about a half hour earlier, reports WCVB, Gallant had been at the Horace Mann Laboratory School over on Loring Avenue trying to pick up his older daughter. Mobile Video-Based Trailer Drills Officers in Firearms and Communication

Stoneham Police officers spent last week using the Middlesex Sheriff's Mobile Training Center, a trailer that tests officers' skill with both their firearm and decision-making using pre-recorded video scenarios.

Two police officers have their guns drawn, cautiously moving down the high school hallway as they check doors after a report of a man with a gun inside the school. Suddenly a crowd of students comes running around the corner, with the officers telling everyone to show their hands up, and just as suddenly the gunman turns around the corner. The officers yell for the man to drop his weapon, but he fires, and the officers return fire. That harrowing and sadly familiar sounding situation—and other intense scenarios involving firearms—took place in a virtual training last week behind the Stoneham Police Department, where the Middlesex Sheriff Department's Mobile Training Center parked for six days as officers were drilled in both firearms …

Middlesex Sheriff Announces New Crime-Fighting Tool

Local police agencies will now have access to more information on prison inmates.

Middlesex County law enforcement agencies now have an additional tool to fight crime—more and easier access to information about prison inmates.  The Middlesex County Sheriff's office recently unveiled MIDNet, the Massachusetts Inmate Data Network, which allows police officers to access information on inmates in hopes of bolstering public safety, according to the Sheriff's office.  MIDNet allows officers to find information on an inmate's status, charges, identifying marks, aliases and other information from other correctional facilities, including state Department of Correction facilties. Alleged Serial Gun-Wielding Robber Arrested by Stoneham Police

Police believe that 19-year-old Taylor A. Goulding is connected to seven recent armed robberies in Stoneham, Woburn, Winchester, Melrose and Reading.

Stoneham Police have arrested a 19-year-old in connection with seven recent armed robberies in the area, the department announced in a press release on Thursday morning. Taylor A. Goulding of Stoneham is charged with two counts of armed robbery while being masked and one count of attempted armed robbery while being masked for the three robberies that occurred in Stoneham on Oct. 30 at DB Mart, Nov. 1 at Sunset Tanning and Nov. 11 at C-Store. In each of those robberies, the suspect was described as a white male, wearing a black ski mask, black sweatshirt, black pants, black gloves, black and white sneakers, and brandishing a black handgun, according to Stoneham Police.
