On Wednesday, Jan. 16, firefighters responded to five calls for motor vehicle accidents with personal injuries, with three more calls for accidents with personal injuries over the course of the week. Firefighters responded to 16 calls in total about motor vehicle accidents during the week. The Fire Department also responded to eight box alarms over the course of the week. The event is slated for Saturday, Aug. 11 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the rear parking lot of Redstone Shopping Center on Main Street.
The Stoneham Fire Department will hosting a Touch-a-Truck event on Aug. 11, 2012 in the rear parking lot of Redstone Shopping Center on Main Street, according to a press statement. The free event, which will be held raise or shine, will be held in conjunction with the fire department's annual Fill the Boot fundraising drive in support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., children will be able to see, touch, explore and honk the horns of their favorite fire trucks and emergency vehicles. The brush fire Wednesday afternoon was in the same area of the Middlesex Fells Reservation as Monday's fire near the edge of I-93 near Exit 34 northbound in Stoneham.
A brush fire in the Middlesex Fells Reservation along the edge of I-93 near the Medford-Stoneham border Wednesday afternoon was quickly extinguished, according to Stoneham Fire Lieutenant Matthew Rexrode. The fire was in the same area as the brush fires that broke out Monday afternoon near Exit 34 northbound of I-93, according to Rexrode. Stoneham Engine 3 put the fire out quickly, according to Rexrode. Medford firefighters were also called to the scene, added the lieutenant. The cause of the fire is unknown.

A 35-year-old Everett man died early this morning in Stoneham when his car struck a rock ledge off the northbound side of the interstate.
A 35-year-old Everett man died early this morning in Stoneham when his car went off I-93 North and crashed into a rock ledge, according to a Massachusetts State Police press release. State Police troopers responded at 1:30 a.m. Monday morning to a single-car crash before Exit 36 on Route 93. A preliminary investigation indicates that 2003 Toyota Echo driven by Oscar Lopez exited the right side of the roadway "for reasons still under investigation" and struck the rock ledge, causing severe damage to the front of the car, according to the press release. Lopez suffered traumatic injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene, State Police said. He was not wearing a seatbelt. The crash remains under investiation by State Police, …

Fire at two alarms.
Woburn Fire is battling at two-alarm blaze at the Kraft Foods plant this afternoon at 2:50 p.m. The call came in around 2:45 p.m. Saturday for a fire at the former Atlantic Gelatin facility on Hill Street near the Stoneham line. Winchester and Stoneham Fire departments also responded to the scene. A sparks canteen truck also responded to the scene to assist firefighters who are battling the blaze in 89-degree heat. Woburn Patch was not allowed on the property due to the heavy smoke conditions. According to Woburn Fire, the blaze started in a 20-foot cooling tower and was fully involved. Woburn Patch will have more information when available.

Nearly half of the calls fielded by the department were for aid requests (32 calls), followed by box alarms (10) and motor vehicle crashes with personal injury and medical aid with eight apiece. April 29 was the busiest day for firefighters, as they handled 16 calls for service.
