Porcupine Born at Stone Zoo

The newest addition to the Stone Zoo family is a prehensile-tailed porcupine, WCVB reports.

The Stone Zoo has a new addition to the family, WCVB reports. Prehensile-tailed porcupine parents (say that three times fast) Comica and Elvis recently gave birth to a baby, who can be seen inside the Windows to the Wild exhibit, according to WCVB. According to information previously provided by Stone Zoo, Zoo New England participates in the Prehensile-tailed Porcupine Species Survival Plan (SSP), which is a cooperative, inter-zoo program coordinated nationally through the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). SSPs are designed to maintain genetically diverse and demographically stable captive populations of species. They will be accepting toy donations until Dec. 20, and all donations will go directly to children in Stoneham. Collection boxes have been placed at Stoneham Fire Station, Stoneham Town Hall, Stoneham Bank on Montvale Ave, Stoneham Savings Bank on Main st, and Arielle's Cafe & Pizzeria. Arctic Foxes Arrive, Halloween Event Next at Stone Zoo

Visitors to the Boo at the Zoo Halloween event on Oct. 20-21 will get to see four arctic foxes which recently arrived at Stone Zoo.

Visitors to the Boo at the Zoo event this weekend will have pleny of Halloween activities to choose from, as well as an opportunity to see four arctic foxes that recently arrived at Stone Zoo. "Children throughout New England are invited to trick-or-treat among the animals," reads a Stone Zoo press statement. "Thrills, chills, and animals lurk around every corner on the Trick-or-Treat Trail. Other haunted happenings offered throughout the day include: creepy crafts, ghoulish games, howling and costume contests, and a haunted maze." Boo at the Zoo is slated to run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 20-21. Tickets cost $14 for adults, $12 for seniors (62-plus), $10 for kids ages 2-12 and free admission for kids under 2.
