Will the GOP Field a Candidate in U.S. Senate Race?

Senate race will have a Democratic primary, and a Libertarian candidate has now announced. But still no Republican contender.

With local Republicans still scrambling to find someone to run in the race for the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by John Kerry’s appointment to Secretary of State, we do have some other contenders who have jumped into the fray. On Monday, Beverly Libertarian Daniel Fishman announced he would attempt to get on the ballot for the U.S. Senate special election. Fishman garnered more than 16,000 votes in the 6th Congressional District election last fall finishing third behind Congressman John Tierney and Republican candidate Richard Tisei, who previously represented Stoneham in the state Senate before becoming Charlie Baker's running mate in the last gubernatorial election. "The thing I became most aware of on the campaign trail is that there is…

Hudak Leaves Congressional Race

Citing a busy schedule and personal issues, Bill Hudak will not run for Congress in 2012.

Richard Tisei has one more reason to smile this week. Republican congressional candidate and conservative firebrand Bill Hudak of Boxford has announced he is leaving the 2012 congressional race, saying he's simply too busy. “A business opportunity has presented itself to me, which in addition to my active law practice will involve substantial amounts of my time and effort for the balance of the year,” Hudak said in a statement announcing his decision. Hudak said he will instead set his sights on 2014 and added that "other personal factors" are involved in his decision. While he did not elaborate on that, he said that those issues will be resolved by the end of this year. “I need my supporters to know that I am humbled by the outpouring of …

I agree leantoright, we are all better off with a "moderate" choice like Tisei vs the staunch conservative Hudak, who actually refuses to back Tisei due to Tisei's left leaning tendancies. Talk about money machines, can't wait to see the GOP roll out their SuperPac machine in order to unseat Tierney, ought to get very nasty!!!   more ›

Richard Tisei's Campaign Shows Big Donation Gains

The congressional candidate saw a surge in campaign cash in the fourth quarter.

Just a few weeks after announcing his campaign for Congress, Republican Richard Tisei has reason to smile -- as well as an impressive pile of money, for a Republican running in a largely Democratic district. The former State Senate minority leader and lieutenant governor candidate, who announced his candidacy for the state's 6th District congressional seat in mid-November, raked in $305,000 in the last seven weeks of 2011, according to a report by Roll Call. Tisei, who has a long history in Massachusetts politics and a track record as a heavyweight fundraiser, will run in the Republican primary for the chance to take on Conressman John Tierney in the general election next fall. Born in Somerville and raised in Wakefield, Tisei served in …

Tisei to Officially Announce Run for Congress Tuesday in Wakefield

Richard Tisei will kick off his campaign seeking the 6th District congressional seat.

Former State Senate Majority Leader Richard Tisei will officially announce his run for the state’s 6th District seat in Congress on Tuesday in his hometown of Wakefield. “I own a small business, a real estate company, and I’ve been working with people who were really having a hard time, who’ve lost their jobs, who’ve seen their life savings disappear,” Tisei said of his decision to run. “The American dream of home ownership has disappeared.” One factor in his decision was the state’s redistricting plan, which Tisei said he was waiting to be completed before announcing his run. The district is slated to pick up Tewksbury, Billerica and part of Andover. Those communities have been shown to favor Republicans in recent elections. “I know a lot…

Tisei Plans Run for Congress Under Redistricting Proposal

Proposed redistricting plan would give Markey a sliver of Cambridge and more towns out west.

Former State Senator Richard Tisei said yesterday he plans to challenge Democratic Congressman John F. Tierney if a proposed redistricting plan is adopted, according to a story in today's Boston Globe.  The Republican said the addition of Billerica and Tewksbury, towns that have voted Republican in recent years, could help the party defeat Tierney, the Globe reported.  Under the proposed redistricting plan, Congressman Ed Markey's 7th District is renamed the 5th District and is expanded to include a sliver of Cambridge, now represented by Michael Capuano, as well as the western towns of Southborough, Ashland, Holliston, Sherborn, and a large portion of Sudbury. And Markey would lose Everett to the new 7th District which would be …
