Top finalists in Patch's Battle of the Bands representing Danvers, The Truezoos, will treat fans to a non-stop set of rock at The Harp on June 28.
No glitz, no glamour, no problem. For Sean O'Sullivan, Jeff Kereakoglow and Marc Hoffman, the three members of the up and coming rock band The Truezoos, it's all about the music. On Thursday, they will perform at Patch's Battle of the Bands concert at The Harp in Boston along with Forget the Former and the winner of the Video Battle of the Bands, The President. Register for this free event on our Event Brite page. The Georgetown natives decided to go all in back in 2009, after finishing up college, and are now working day jobs "just to pay the bills," as founding band member Sean O'Sullivan stated, because "the music is our priority." The Truezoos style of music, which lead singer/lead guitarist Sean O'Sullivan described as funky-fresh, …

Boston's MFA makes for an interesting destination for any art connoisseur.
One of the things I love about living in Medford is our proximity to the resources of Boston: world-renowned medical care, top-notch colleges and universities, fine dining and Fenway Park, for example. This week's recommended escape is Boston's Museum of Fine Arts. And just like visits to Boston, visits to the MFA can be different every time you go. For example: The "Sex in the City" Escape: Meet your girlfriends at the MFA's New American Café for a glass of wine or a cappuccino, then stroll through an exhibit celebrating the work of fashion designer Arnold Scaasi. The Boston Globe calls the exhibit "... a thrilling look into a universe of wealth, charm, and celebrity." The "History Buff's" Escape: Visit the MFA's new Art of the Americas …

Despite a narrow 4-3 vote in favor of the Central Elementary School site over the Stoneham High School proposal, the Stoneham School Building Committee came together and unanimously approved the Central School location Monday night.
STONEHAM — While neither of the proposed Stoneham Middle School sites are a perfect solution, the Stoneham School Building Committee ultimately chose the Central Elementary School location over the Stoneham High School one Monday night. The comittee was split 3-3 on the initial vote to decide the future Middle School site, with vice chairperson Lisa Gallagher, Bill Previdi and Paul Rotondi supporting the Central School site and Marie Christie, Ben Caggiano and David Bois in favor of the High School location. "I like the school project up here," said Christie of the High School site. "It sort of stabilizes the school system and I think it gives parents a sense of stabilization. "I think by eliminating a central school it will eliminate the …

A Stoneham man was one of the recipients of an award at the ceremony held at the Massachusetts State House Friday morning.
Standing tall on the Grand Staircase at the Massachusetts State House the recipients of awards and medals signifying bravery gathered to display their honors to their families, fellow police officers and state troopers. The awards and medals were given out at a ceremony on behalf of the Massachusetts State Police. A huge round of applause erupted from the crowd Friday morning to show their appreciation for the heroic acts demonstrated by the honorees who humbly said they were only doing the right thing. “I just did what I was trained to do and it’s nothing extra,” said Trooper David Fleming Jr. who received the Lifesaving Award for resuscitating a nine-year-old girl with help from fellow honoree Brendan Donahue of the Shrewsbury Police …

The veteran School Committee member is now on point for the proposed Stoneham Middle School building project.
The proposed Middle School project appears to have a new point person as Stoneham School Committee member Jeanne Craigie was tabbed chairperson of the Stoneham School Building Committee at its last meeting earlier this month. Craigie takes the reins from Peter D’Angelo, who also served on the Finance and Advisory Board for 25 years before stepping down from that post in 2004. “(Peter) resigned due to personal reasons,” Craigie said. “I learned a great deal from him, and consider him a mentor and a friend.” Holding a spot on the School Committee from 1989-2002 and again from 2009 to the present, Craigie hopes to use her past experience guiding previous construction projects such as those at South Elementary School in 2000 and the Central …

The Stoneham School Building Committee approved the study and subcontracting fees to take the next steps toward improving the current Stoneham Middle School situation.
The Stoneham School Building Committee approved $310,000 for a feasibility study to be conducted by Tappé Associates as well as an additional $16,000 for subcontracting fees in the latest step toward Stoneham's proposed new Middle School project during their session Monday night. Tappé Associates, a Boston firm selected in late February as the official architectural managers for the project, have been contracted on similar projects at nearby Woburn High School and Melrose Middle School. Spokespeople for Tappé and assigned project manager Joslin Lesser & Associates Inc. recommended a window of somewhere between October and November for the final results of their feasibility study on potential designs for the proposed new Middle School, …
