Police: Clerk Throws 'Chili Powder' in Gunman's Face, Thwarts Robbery

The same suspect that recently committed five armed robberies—two in Stoneham—in the area attempted a sixth Sunday night at a Main Street convenience store in Stoneham, according to police.

The same suspect that recently committed five armed robberies—two in Stoneham—in the area attempted a sixth Sunday night at a Main Street convenience store in Stoneham, according to Stoneham Detective Christopher Dalis. At 9:21 p.m. on Veterans Day, police responded to a report of an attempted armed robbery at the C-Store, 41 Main St. "(The) suspect brandished a handgun; however, did not get any cash," Dalis said. "Clerk did not mace the suspect but did throw a cup of 'chili powder' in his face." The suspect fled the store toward George Street, according to Dalis, and a Massachusetts State Police K-9 unit was called in. Police: Stoneham Armed Robber Also Hit Melrose, Winchester and Woburn

Since Oct. 30, five Stoneham area businesses have been robbed at gunpoint, and police believe it's the same person.

Recently, five armed robberies have occurred at Melrose area businesses and police believe the suspect in each case is the same person. Since Oct. 30, five armed robberies—including one at the DB Mart convenience store and another at Sunset Tanning in Stoneham—have taken place in the area, including one in Melrose, Winchester and Woburn, according to investigators. The suspect is described as being a white male, approximately 5-foot-8, wearing a black hat, black mask, black sweat shirt, black gloves, black running pants with a white stripe down the leg and black sneakers with white soles, according to Stoneham Detective Christopher Dalis.  "I have been working with Woburn, Winchester and Melrose detectives," said Stoneham Detective …

With two nighttime armed robberies in less than a week, we'd like to know: Do you feel safe visiting Stoneham businesses at night? On Tuesday night there was an armed robbery at the DB Mart on Main Street, and another armed robbery occurred Thursday night at Sunset Tanning on Montvale Avenue, according to police. My wife and I will not venture to the high crime spots like Variety Stores, Package Stores, Food Shopping stores or a Bank after the sun sets. With the increase of armed robberies in Stoneham there's no sense taking a chance. I am all for raising taxes to increase the presence of police in our town. Stoneham Man Possibly Involved in Multiple Armed Robberies in the Area [PHOTOS, VIDEO]

Michael Gallella, 30, was arrested in Hamilton on Saturday after allegedly robbing Harrigan's Liquor Store may possibly be connected to several other armed robberies in the region in recent months.

A Stoneham man arrested minutes after allegedly robbing Harrigan’s Liquor Store at knifepoint on Saturday is possibly responsible for other area robberies in recent months. Hamilton police said on Monday that there is an “extensive investigation” focused on Michael Gallella in connection to his possible role in robberies in Marblehead, Reading, Saugus and Wakefield. And the robber in surveillance footage from the Marblehead and Wakefield robberies looks similar to Gallella, including images from Wakefield where he is holding a knife to the face of the clerk. Gallella, 30, and his alleged accomplice and girlfriend, Ashley Mazac, 24, were arraigned on Monday at Ipswich District Court in Newburyport. The pair each face a charge of armed …
