A caller told police they saw an older man watching people at Hall Memorial Swimming Pool with binoculars from the roadway.

On Tuesday, July 17, Stoneham police responded to a call about a man who may have been spying on the recreational pool, a small brush fire and a report of fireworks. Tuesday, July 17 @1:42 p.m.: Police received a call for a middle-aged, balding man in a light blue or grey minivan using binoculars to look across the roadway toward Hall Memorial Swimming Pool with binoculars. An officer checked the area but found no evidence of the minivan or man. @4:42 p.m.: A brush fire at the Middlesex Fells Reservation was handled by the police and fire departments. Stoneham's Hall Memorial Swimming Pool wasn't expected to be opened by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) this summer, but now the pool is slated to open Sunday, July 15, according to a press statement from Sen. After taking into consideration several factors, the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) has decided not to open Hall Memorial Swimming Pool this summer, according to a DCR spokesperson. "We are in fact not opening the Stoneham swimming pool for the 2012 season," wrote DCR spokesperson S.J. Port in an email to Stoneham Patch. The Hall Memorial Swimming Pool in Stoneham has been closed by the Department of Conservation and Recreation until further notice due to the tragedy that took place recently in Fall River.
After Stoneham residents heard the news of a 36-year-old woman’s body being found at the bottom of a public swimming pool in Fall River, it raised awareness and suspicion. With lifeguards on duty and children playing at all hours of the day, it seems almost impossible for nobody to notice a body at the bottom of a pool for two days. Lauren Chauncy, a former lifeguard, is convinced that something went wrong during the week the body was found in the pool. "I guess having been a lifeguard, I’ve learned to be extremely aware of my surroundings," Chauncy said.
