Bella D loves humans and warm laps.
PAWS (Protection of Animals in Wakefield Society) is an all-volunteer, non-profit animal welfare organization serving several communities north of Boston. Bella D is my name and affection is my game. At three years old, I am just getting started. I am a girl who knows what she wants, and what I want is to sit on your lap while you pet me. If you ignore me, I will let you know with my very loud meow. I don’t talk a lot. But when I do, I make myself understood. I may sound pushy, but I am actually a very mellow feline. Nothing bothers me and I love everyone and everything. OK, I did not appreciate being in a cage during adoption hours, but then I did not mind the hyperactive dog that came over to see me. I even thought he might be fun…

This friendly Maine coon cat needs a loving home.
[Editor's note: The following column was submitted by Lots of Love Cat Rescue.] Life has many different chapters for us all. We can only guess the first few of Tolstoy’s life. Named after his foster mom’s favorite writer, Leo Tolstoy, both share a large stock frame and wise ways. The chapter we do know: It took four long months of feeding and gaining trust to trap this wise cat. Filthy and matted, you could feel each rib on his scrawny frame. Turn the page, and now this gorgeous Maine coon cat mix, with his black, gray and white soft fur, is close to his ideal weight. Believed to be about two to three years young, he follows his foster mom around and she often catches him gazing upon her. Tolstoy would likely get along with any animal or …

This two-year-old, fit and trim medium-sized cat is looking for a new home—could it be yours.
PAWS (Protection of Animals in Wakefield Society) is an all-volunteer, non-profit animal welfare organization serving Wakefield and other neighboring communities. My name is Berwick and I might as well come right out and tell you that I was orphaned on the side of the road. I am no modern-day Huckleberry Finn. I don’t want to be alone and wandering. I am not the tramping type or a thrill seeker. I haven’t an ounce of wander lust in me. No, I am just a cuddly, loving tiger cat who wants to go home ... to you. As you can see from my pictures, I am a young, about two years old, very handsome, fit, and trim medium-sized cat. Unlike some felines, I am easy to pick up, very snuggly, and an all-around happy guy. Nothing ruffles me. I am not …

This shy duo needs a caring home to go to.
[Editor's note: The following column was submitted by Lots of Love Cat Rescue.] Ahoy there! Come aboard and meet our pirate kittens, Captain and Morgan. Upon laying eyes on them, you might want to shout, “Well shiver me timbers!” because together, these adorable mates share a pair of eyes. That’s right, Captain has the left one and his sister, the right one. However, they can run with the best of them, with their amusing kitten energy. Before saved, both lived a harsh outside life, constant pain from infected eyes. Because someone spotted them and took action, they became the lucky ones. Both kittens are healthy and stunning. Captain has a beautiful blend of gray and white fur. His right eye had to be removed because it was so infected. …

This sweet girl loves attention.
[Editor's note: The following column was submitted by Lots of Love Cat Rescue.] Candy. Just the word can elicit sweet childhood memories: a mouthful of gumballs, un-wrapping your favorite chocolate bar, zipping you back to an easier time. Our sweet Candy girl had an easier life until her owner became ill and the family decided to give up their two young cats (Candy’s less than 18 months old). However, they kept their kitten. Candy is waiting to fill your world with sweet new memories. So friendly and affectionate, she just wants to be close. Candy is stunning; with her white diamond face, pretty caramel and chocolate colorings, tabby stripes on her head and tail but not on her body; unique for a tabby. Her short, pretty fur compliments …

Will you adopt Dawn the tuxedo cat?
Hey you over there. Look at me! My name is Dawn and I'm the bright, little, tuxedo girl who is looking at you from the window of my home at the Danvers PetSmart. I moved here recently from a PAWS foster home because they told me I could find my new family more quickly if I showed myself off to lots of people, so here I am. I'm looking at you with my big, dazzling, green eyes. I know you can tell already, but I'm sweet, curious and gentle. I love to be patted and am very affectionate. I may not show it at first, but I’m longing to cuddle and rub up against you. Haven't you noticed that if you put your nose to my window I will put my nose there too? I also love to “sniff” any fingers that are extended. If you come during adoption hours on …

Find out more about the latest Lots of Love Cat Rescue's Pet of the Week.
[Editor's note: The following column was submitted by Lots of Love Cat Rescue.] Transit is ready to travel to a loving home. He is a confident and striking boy, with his defined tiger-like stripes and spots, white paws and an adorable half-white diamond on his face. He also has soulful green eyes, short easily-manageable fur (gray and black) and a long, lanky body. His physical and personality traits lead us to believe he is an Egyptian Mau mix. Only two years old, Transit has faced harsh winters and near starvation trying to survive in the woods. Luckily, he stumbled upon a woman who was putting food out for some stray cats. Each time she arrived, Transit appeared. At each feeding, Transit would gobble down three cans of food. It wasn’t …

This bright and curious cat will make you laugh.
My name is Avon and curiosity is my game. Yes, I'm an inquisitive sort. I love to sit by the window and watch the birds. There is a nice rhododendron bush outside the dining room window and sometimes I get so excited I forget I'm on the sill and fall off. But don’t worry, I get right back on and do it all over again. It’s all part of the fun. I'm also fascinated by the three-year-old human that I live with. I can sit and watch him forever. I know how to play gently. I also know how to get out of his way when he gets too rambunctious. But mostly, I just want to sit near him and watch. True to my curious side, I'm known to steal a toy or sock or something. When I find a toy that I like, I dash through the house with it while my “peeps” chase…

This friendly kitten needs a loving home.
[Editor's note: The following information derives from Lots of Love Cat Rescue.] Thelma is a young girl looking to put a rocky past behind her. A fresh start is all this beauty needs. She is one lucky kitten who has survived a life of starvation, seeking food and shelter among a bunch of boulders. When she and her siblings were found in the rocks, they were scared, cold and most of all, very hungry. It was no life for a kitten. Thankfully a kind person rescued them from their rocky spot and found them a foster home with us, which provides them with the food, warmth and safety they needed. Here, Thelma is thriving. Thelma has high energy, just loves to play with the other cats and especially has a ball with the toy wand — her favorite …
