Fundraiser for Stoneham Man Injured in Marathon Blasts a Hit in Woburn

Woburn-based Tanner Tavern was packed full of people who made a donation to support Marc Fucarile, a Stoneham man and father injured in the Boston Marathon bombings.

Woburn-based Tanner Tavern was filled to the brim with people drinking, eating and jiving to live music for a good cause last night. The crowd gathered to help raise funds for Marc Fucarile, a Stoneham man injured in the Boston Marathon bombings who is the only remaining Boston Marathon victim at Mass General Hospital. He has already lost his right leg and doctors are trying to save his left through various surgeries and medical procedures.   The event was organized by Woburn Firefighter Joe Foley, with the help of many other volunteers, including members of the Stoneham Fire Department. The fundraiser featured raffles, live music, comedian Lenny Clark and food and drinks. People made a $10 donation for entry. There were also "celebrity" …

Board of Appeal Requests CVS Pay for Traffic Study

The Winchester Board of Appeal voted Tuesday night to have CVS Pharmacy pay for a peer review traffic study in the area of the retailer's proposed store at the corner of Swanton and Washington Streets.

The Winchester Board of Appeal voted Tuesday night to have CVS Pharmacy pay for a peer review traffic study in the area of the retailer's proposed store at the corner of Swanton and Washington Streets. CVS, which has a location on Main Street in Winchester, is proposing to develop a 11,995-square-foot store with a 2,405-square-foot mezzanine in the area of 278-292 Washington St., 12 Swanton St. and 16-20 Swanton St. The area is currently zoned as mixed use, which allows for commercial development. Peer Review Traffic Study After hearing updates from the developer about the newly revised site plan, the board unanimously approved having CVS pay up to $5,000 for the traffic study. National Police Week 2013: Candles Raised for the Fallen

People from around the country take part in a candle-light vigil at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial to honor the fallen including officers from Massachusetts.

More than 19,000 names of fallen law enforcement officers are etched into the walls of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC -- and more are added every year. The keepers of the police memorial figure one law officer in the United States dies in the line of duty every 57 hours. For this year's ceremony, 321 names were added to that wall. Among them: Middlesex County Correction Officer James Callahan, Sr., who died in 1973 due to a heart attack after being assaulted by an inmate and Woburn Police Officer John P. Gibbons III, who was killed in the line of duty on May 4, 1999. Gibbons suffered a fatal heart attack after being kicked in the chest by a woman while responding to a disturbance call. Brothers Injured in Bombing Recovering Together at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital

Stoneham natives Paul and JP Norden, who both lost limbs in the Boston Marathon explosions, spoke Monday about the support they've received, the healing process and what's next.

Stoneham natives and brothers JP and Paul Norden reunited last Friday at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, where they are both undergoing care for injuries sustained in the April 15 Boston Marathon bombings. Used to seeing each other several times a day before the explosion that left them both without one leg, the brothers were glad for the reunion, though it will be short-lived—Paul is expected to be released from Spaulding soon for out-patient care, while JP will remain behind. Doctor: 'Cautiously Optimistic' on Injured MBTA Officer's Recovery

Dr. David Miller said he was "cautiously optimistic" about Winchester native and MBTA Officer Richard Donohue Jr.'s recovery after he was wounded during a shoot-out with the Boston Marathon bombing suspects early Friday morning.

During a press conference Sunday afternoon at Mount Auburn Hospital, Dr. David Miller said he was "cautiously optimistic" about Winchester native and MBTA Officer Richard Donohue Jr.'s recovery after he was wounded during a shoot-out with the Boston Marathon bombing suspects early Friday morning. Following the conference, Dr. Russell Nauta, professor of surgery at Mount Auburn Hospital, explained what happened to Donohue Jr. "He was shot through the anterior thigh and there was an entrance wound and no exit wound so the bullet remains in the leg," Nauta said, adding that there were no fractures and partial transection of three out of the four blood vessels that are in the leg. VIDEO: Markey Will 'Seriously Consider' Run for Senate

With news that Sen. John Kerry may be tapped as the Obama White House's nominee for Secretary of State, Markey said he will "seriously consider" making a run if the vacancy is announced.

Congressman Ed Markey told reporters he was "seriously considering" a run for Senate, should Sen. John Kerry be tapped as President Barack Obama's nominee for secretary of state. Markey, who represents Stoneham, made the remarks to reporters at Malden City Hall, following a press conference regarding the city's proposed minor league baseball park. "I hope that John Kerry does become secretary of state; he will be a great secretary of state," Markey said. "When that announcement is made I will seriously consider looking at ... (the seat).
