Somerville Man Charged With OUI in Stoneham Crash

Daniel Gerard received non-life threatening injuries in crash on I-93 in Stoneham early Saturday.

UPDATE, 10:18 a.m.: A Somerville man was charged with operating under the influence of liquor after the accident in Stoneham on I-93 south that closed three lanes of the highway early Saturday. Massachusetts State Police Trooper Nicole Morrell said Daniel Gerard, 32, of Somerville was issued a summons after being transported to MGH with non-life threatening injuries. Morrell said the accident involved a vehicle operated by Gerard and a tractor-trailer unit on I-93 southbound south of Exit 35. Morrell did not have information on the type of vehicle Gerard was operating. The operator of the tractor-trailer unit was not injured in the crash, according to Morrell. Should the State Install High-Speed Tolls on I-93?

Asked about toll fairness during a Patch live chat, Governor Deval Patrick asked a reader whether he'd support high-speed tolls. Are these a good way to share the transportation funding pain, or another money grab?

Are high-speed tolls along Interstate 93 and other highways a smart way to help fund transportation in the state? Governor Deval Patrick mentioned such a system during a Patch live chat on Thursday. If you've gone up Interstate 95 into New Hampshire, you've seen high-speed tolling in action. The system is designed to read your EZ-Pass (nee Fast Lane) transponder while you breeze by at 65 miles per hour. There's no need to slow down or squeeze though a booth, as EZ-Pass users currently do on the Mass Pike, Tobin Bridge and harbor tunnels. REPORT: Suspect Led Police on High-Speed Chase on I-93

A suspect led police on a high-speed pursuit on Interstate 93 late Thursday night, according to a scanner report.

A suspect led police on a high-speed chase on Interstate 93 late Thursday night, according to a scanner report. Shortly before midnight, State Police attempted to stop a driver allegedly traveling over 100 miles per hour on the highway, according to the report. The suspect was last seen by a detail officer at Route 28 and Pond Street in Stoneham, according to the report. Stoneham and Melrose police were notified about the incident, the report added. State and Melrose police were standing by at the suspect's residence on Pleasant Street in Melrose, according to a Twitter report. We'll provide an update once we obtain more information.

REPORT: State Police Can't Catch Car Going 109 MPH on I-93 in Stoneham

The incident occurred before 2 a.m. Tuesday., according to a scanner report.

An unusual incident happened early Tuesday morning on Interstate 93 in Stoneham: State Police couldn't catch up to a vehicle traveling over 100 miles per hour, according to a scanner report. Shortly before 2 a.m., State Police Troop A broadcasted a motor vehicle was going 109 miles per hour and that a trooper was unable to catch up to it, according to the report.  The speeding vehicle was described as a Volvo-type car. It's unclear if the driver was alone in the vehicle at the time of the incident. No arrests were reported. What do you think about this incident? The crash occurred early Friday morning on I-93 in Stoneham, according to scanner reports.

A North Andover woman accused of drunk driving crashed into a State Police cruiser early Friday morning on I-93 in Stoneham, according to a State Pollice press statement. At 12:35 a.m., police responded to a car accident involving a State Police cruiser on I-93, according to the statement. A State Police trooper was inside the cruiser when it was struck by a 2004 Volkswagen Passat, according to a State Police spokesperson. Man Dies in Early Morning I-93 Crash

A 35-year-old Everett man died early this morning in Stoneham when his car struck a rock ledge off the northbound side of the interstate.

A 35-year-old Everett man died early this morning in Stoneham when his car went off I-93 North and crashed into a rock ledge, according to a Massachusetts State Police press release. State Police troopers responded at 1:30 a.m. Monday morning to a single-car crash before Exit 36 on Route 93. A preliminary investigation indicates that 2003 Toyota Echo driven by Oscar Lopez exited the right side of the roadway "for reasons still under investigation" and struck the rock ledge, causing severe damage to the front of the car, according to the press release. Lopez suffered traumatic injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene, State Police said. He was not wearing a seatbelt. The crash remains under investiation by State Police, …
