PHOTOS: Best Halloween Costumes in America

The Pirate Carrying a Mermaid Optical Illusion has been named Patch's Halloween Costume in America, winning it's creator $5,000 from Patch. Check out some of the creative runners up in our photo gallery.

Ashley Playford dressed up as a pirate carrying a mermaid this Halloween. Well, actually, she dressed up as the mermaid. Well...Her creativity has earned her the title of Patch's Best Halloween Costume in America and a $5,000 grand prize.   It was Playford's use of an optical illusion that won us over. Take a look at the photo she entered on Peekskill-Cortlandt Patch! Almost 4,000 Patch users entered the contest from Oct. 15 to Nov. 5, with costumes ranging from the Eiffel Tower and Honey Boo Boo to a flower pot and a clever interpretation of "binders full of women." National judges chose one finalist from each Patch state based on who had the most creative and innovative costume (we combined North Carolina & South Carolina for this …

Halloween Trick or Treat Stroll Kicks Off Saturday

The Stoneham Chamber of Commerce, along with Stoneham TV and Rebuilding Rounds Playground, will host their third annual Halloween Trick or Treat Stroll on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 2-4 p.m.

The Stoneham Chamber of Commerce, along with Stoneham TV and Rebuilding Rounds Playground, will host their third annual Halloween Trick or Treat Stroll on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 2-4 p.m., according to the chamber's website. Costumed youngsters, accompanied by adults, can trick or treat in and around Stoneham Square area businesses and participate in fun children’s activities at Stoneham TV, reads the website. Local businesses will be giving out candy to visitors during the Halloween Stroll. “We plan to include businesses situated in and around Main Street, as well as all of our member businesses who want to participate, even if they aren’t located in the square”, said Cathy Doucet, president of the Stoneham Chamber of Commerce, on the site…

Arctic Foxes Arrive, Halloween Event Next at Stone Zoo

Visitors to the Boo at the Zoo Halloween event on Oct. 20-21 will get to see four arctic foxes which recently arrived at Stone Zoo.

Visitors to the Boo at the Zoo event this weekend will have pleny of Halloween activities to choose from, as well as an opportunity to see four arctic foxes that recently arrived at Stone Zoo. "Children throughout New England are invited to trick-or-treat among the animals," reads a Stone Zoo press statement. "Thrills, chills, and animals lurk around every corner on the Trick-or-Treat Trail. Other haunted happenings offered throughout the day include: creepy crafts, ghoulish games, howling and costume contests, and a haunted maze." Boo at the Zoo is slated to run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 20-21. Tickets cost $14 for adults, $12 for seniors (62-plus), $10 for kids ages 2-12 and free admission for kids under 2.
