Middlesex DA Gerry Leone to Step Down, Will Join Scott Brown at Law Firm

Leone will join the law firm of Nixon Peabody on April 29.

Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone is stepping down from his office to join the law firm of Nixon Peabody, the same firm former Sen. Scott Brown earlier this month said he was joining. An announcement from Nixon Peabody says Leone will join the firm as a partner in the government investigations and white collar defense practice beginning April 29. A woman at the Middlesex District Attorney's office confirmed the news, but did not have further details. Leone was first elected as Middlesex district attorney in 2006, and his current term in office was up in 2014. He previously stated he would not run for reelection at the end of his term. John Kerry, who was just approved as the next Secretary of State, stopped by the Middlesex District Attorney's office in Woburn last Thursday for a visit.

The Middlesex District Attorney's Office had a special guest last Thursday. Middlesex DA Gerry Leone welcomed John Kerry, who on Tuesday was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the next Secretary of State. Kerry was a senator for Massachusetts from 1985 until his resignation to take up his new position earlier this week. The stop was part of a tour Kerry is taking around the state as he prepares to take on his new responsibilities. His choice to stop by the Middlesex District Attorney's office was also a chance to catch up on an old place of employment. Middlesex Sheriff Responds to Inquiries On Political Future

Middlesex County Sheriff Peter Koutoujian issued a statement last Friday, Jan. 11, in response to inquiries on whether he would run for the Middlesex DA's seat.

Middlesex Sheriff Peter Koutoujian is not ruling out a run to become the next Middlesex District Attorney. Koutoujian, in a statement released last Friday in response to inquires on whether he would run to fill the seat Middlesex County District Attorney Gerry Leone plans to vacate, said "never say never." “I love my job as Sheriff of Middlesex County and am focused on the work before me," Koutoujian said in the statement. "One of my guiding principles has always been to never say never to any opportunity in which I can provide benefit to the people I serve. Middlesex District Attorney Announces He Won't Seek Third Term

Gerry Leone said he has no specific plans after he leaves office.

Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone has announced he will not seek a third term in 2014, according to his office. Leone made the announcement during an awards ceremony with his staff on Jan. 10 "These decisions are, and should be, predicated upon what is best for the person and their family," Leone said in a statement. "What is best for me and my family is that I not seek another term. As someone who is much smarter than I am once said, 'I must be willing to give up what I am, in order to become what I will be.' Other than a husband and father, I am not yet sure what that will be when I am no longer a District Attorney." Stoneham Men Accused of Stealing $50K From West Medford Little League

Stanley Komins and Stephen Komins allegedly wrote checks from the little league account to themselves, purchased items at BJ's using little league funds and took cash proceeds from the refreshment stand.

A Stoneham father and his son who have served as president and treasurer of the West Medford Little League organization for years have been charged with larceny for allegedly stealing more than $50,000 from the league, according to a press release from Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone's office. Stanley Komins, 78, of Stoneham is charged with larceny by embezzlement over $250 and his son Stephen Komins, 45, also of Stoneham is charged with larceny by embezzlement over $250, uttering a false check, and forgery by check. Both men will be arraigned on Jan. 4 in Somerville District Court. Stoneham Schools Employee Allegedly Pretended to Be 14 to Solicit Nude Photo of Teen Girl

The defendant, a Framingham man, has been placed on administrative leave from Stoneham Public Schools.

A Stoneham Public Schools employee was charged with posing a child in the nude after he allegedly pretended to be a 14-year-old boy and solicited indecent images from a 15-year-old girl in Maine. Steven C. Orloff, 47, 189 Potter Road, of Framingham, was arraigned Wednesday in Framingham District Court on charges of distribution of obscene matter and pose or exhibit a child in the nude, said Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone in a press statement. Framingham District Court Judge Robert Greco ordered the defendant held on $20,000 cash bail with conditions to commit no new crimes, no use of the Internet, stay away from Stoneham Public Schools, vacate his marital home, no contact with children under 18, and surrender his passport. John Burbine, 49, is a level 1 sex offender accused of filming himself in various sexual activities with young children.

A Wakefield husband and wife are facing numerous charges in connection with an illegal day care service that subjected at least 13 children - one of them just days old - to horrific sexual abuse that was recorded on video. On Thursday, Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone announced the indictments of Wakefield residents John Burbine, 49, and his wife, Marian Burbine, 46. The two were proprietors of the Waterfall Education Center, which reportedly offered home-based services to clients ranging from day care to group care and tutoring and babysitting. Middlesex DA Receives 'Friend Award' in Newton

Middlesex County District Attorney Gerry Leone received an award from Riverside Community Care Monday night at an annual appreciation meeting in Newton.

The Newton Marriott was buzzing Monday night for the Riverside Community Care Center's annual appreciation evening, where Middlesex County District Attorney Gerry Leone was honored with an award.  According to a press statement issued Monday, Leone was the recipient of the Riverside Center's "Friend Award", an honor given to him for his efforts to combat community and family violence.
