The average price of a gallon of regular gasoline has gone from $3.43 to $3.74 in Danvers over the past month.
Gas prices in Stoneham continue their upward march, with prices reaching the highest point ever in February and up more than a quarter in the past month. AAA Southern New England said its survey of prices in Massachusetts on Monday found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $3.72 per gallon, four cents higher than a week ago and up 31 cents over the past month. On Monday, the average price of a gallon of regular gas in Stoneham was $3.80, up 30 cents from the Stoneham area average from a month ago and up 6 cents from last week, according to AAA. New England drivers still paying well above the national average.
As the Christmas travel season approaches, drivers are on the receiving end of some good news relative to gas prices. According to AAA Southern New England, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas (self-serve) dropped another seven cents this past week, to $3.47. The good news is that price is 14 cents lower than a month ago. The bad news is, New England drivers are still paying roughly 13 cents higher than the national average and a full 20 cents higher than the price of gas in December 2011. According to the gas stations surveyed by AAA, prices ranged from $3.33 to $3.75 for unleaded regular self-serve. Gas prices have climbed 22 cents this month across Rhode Island, and 32 cents nationwide. How will this impact holiday travel?
As folks gear up for Labor Day weekend, local gas prices continue to creep up. According to AAA Southern New England, the average price of a gallon of gas in Rhode Island is currently $3.86, up 22 cents from this time last month. That is 7 cents, on average, more expensive than what motorists pay in Massachusetts, but 17 cents less expensive than pumps in Connecticut. The local spike is not as bad as the national average, which has seen an increase of 32 cents per gallon this past month. Prices in the area range between $3.67 a gallon and $3.85, with the cheapest price currently at Stop and Shop at 70 Pulaski Boulevard in Bellingham, MA, next door. As we previously reported, there are three contested races for the Town Clerk post and on the Board of Selectmen and Constables.
