The Stoneham High School girls' hockey team’s season came to an abrupt halt on Monday night, as they fell victim to Notre Dame Academy 6-4 in the opening round of the State tournament at Stoneham Arena. The Spartans ended their season with a 10-7-2 overall record. The players were distraught after the playoff loss because their season was over, but it didn't take away from the accomplishments they achieved during the season. After defeating Wilmington 6-1 at home Wednesday night, the Stoneham High School girls' hockey squad finished the regular season with a 10-6-2 overall record and won the school's first Middlesex League Small Division title.
There has never been a Middlesex League Small Division championship awarded to the Stoneham High School girls' hockey team … until Wednesday night, that is.
