Stoneham Falls to Notre Dame Academy, Ousted from State Tournament

The Spartans lost to Notre Academy 6-4 Monday night in the opening round of the State tournament in Stoneham.

The Stoneham High School girls' hockey team’s season came to an abrupt halt on Monday night, as they fell victim to Notre Dame Academy 6-4 in the opening round of the State tournament at Stoneham Arena. The Spartans ended their season with a 10-7-2 overall record. The players were distraught after the playoff loss because their season was over, but it didn't take away from the accomplishments they achieved during the season. Setting the Bar High Jessica Anthony, a senior right defenseman, recalled the Spartans' second game against Wakefield when the team guaranteed them at least a tie to win the Middlesex League Small Division title. “Winning the league is something that no other Stoneham girls' hockey team has done before us and it was …

SHS Girls' Hockey Captures First Middlesex League Division Title

After defeating Wilmington 6-1 at home Wednesday night, the Stoneham High School girls' hockey squad finished the regular season with a 10-6-2 overall record and won the school's first Middlesex League Small Division title.

There has never been a Middlesex League Small Division championship awarded to the Stoneham High School girls' hockey team … until Wednesday night, that is. After beating Wilmington 6-1 at Stoneham Arena, the Spartans claimed their first division title and finished the regular season with a 10-6-2 (6-1-1 in league games) overall record. The Thrill of Achievement Senior captain Colleen O’Quinn could not put into words how ecstatic and proud she was of the team for finally accomplishing the goal of winning the division title. “Since the moment we stepped on the ice that first practice of the season, these girls have been striving for excellence and had such high expectations,” O’Quinn said. “It was something that I thought about each and …
