Will One-Way Ravine Road Trial Continue?

A DCR spokesperson said that the six-month trial will continue as planned unless both Melrose and Stoneham say they would like the experiment to cease.

The one-way Ravine Road six-month trial will continue as planned unless both Melrose and Stoneham say they would like the experiment to cease, according to a Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation spokesperson. DCR spokesperson S.J. Port said in an email that "DCR will continue the trial period unless we hear from both communities that they would like the trial to cease." That means, for now, the trial will continue. Mayor Rob Dolan wrote a letter to the DCR "imploring" the state to end the trial, citing "havoc" created at the Pond Street intersection and saying that the experiment hasn't alleviated issues at the Ravine Road and Fellsway East intersection. However, last Tuesday the Stoneham Board of Selectmen voted …

Stoneham Selectmen Want to Continue Ravine Road One-Way Trial Period

On May 5, the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation made the upper section of Ravine Road from Fellsway East to Woodland Road a one-way state-controlled street as part of a six-month trial period.

The Stoneham Board of Selectmen recently supported keeping part of Ravine Road as a one-way stretch during a six-month trial period run by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). On Tuesday the Selectmen voted unanimously to continue with the trial. Town Administrator David Ragucci intended to report back to DCR the Selectmen's decision so DCR could make a final determination about the Ravine Road trial period. On May 5, DCR made the upper section of Ravine Road from Fellsway East to Woodland Road a one-way state-controlled street. Melrose Mayor Wants Ravine Road Experiment Ended After receiving complaints from Melrosians, Melrose Mayor Rob Dolan penned a letter to DCR calling for the end of the Ravine Road trial…

Your talking no more than 2 min worth of traffic daily. In the long run lives may be saved by contolling the speedsters in the morning. A 30 second set of traffic lights at the intersections should be installed. That would make Melrose residents happy and slow them down at the same time.   more ›

DCR to Change Section of Ravine Road to One-Way Street

Starting Saturday, May 5, the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) will make the upper section of Ravine Road from Fellsway East to Woodland Road a one-way state-controlled street, according to the Town of Stoneham website.

Starting Saturday, May 5, the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) will make the upper section of Ravine Road from Fellsway East to Woodland Road a one-way state-controlled street, according to a press statement on the Town of Stoneham website. At a recent Stoneham Board of Selectmen session, Town Administrator David Ragucci said he met with DCR about Ravine Road and the change will run for the next six months and "we'll assess after that." "The six-month trial does not include any roadway changes to lower Ravine Road (Fellsway East to W. Wyoming Ave.)," reads the press statement. "During this trial period, traffic from Woodland Road will be forced to used Pond Street to reach the Fellsway. "The purpose of this …

When did the DCR get the authority to decide if a public way becomes a one-way street? I was under the assumption that the Massachusetts DOT would be the authority having jurisdiction. That being said;if the Fellsway and adjoining recreational lands are under state jurisdiction and Stoneham and Melrose receive no tax revenue from said land then perhaps the DCR should be the ones providing police,…   more ›

Gov. Deval Patrick said in a radio interview Thursday that he thinks the state will be able to re-open all 30 of the state Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) deepwater pools—including the Lloyd Memorial Pool on Tremont Street in Melrose—in time for the Fourth of July weekend, the Worcester Telegram and Gazette reports. On Wednesday, the DCR announced that its 30 deepwater pools would be closed until further notice, after a woman's body was found floating in a Fall River DCR pool on Tuesday night. Stoneham Pool Closed, Residents React To Fall River Drowning Tragedy

The Hall Memorial Swimming Pool in Stoneham has been closed by the Department of Conservation and Recreation until further notice due to the tragedy that took place recently in Fall River.

After Stoneham residents heard the news of a 36-year-old woman’s body being found at the bottom of a public swimming pool in Fall River, it raised awareness and suspicion. With lifeguards on duty and children playing at all hours of the day, it seems almost impossible for nobody to notice a body at the bottom of a pool for two days. Lauren Chauncy, a former lifeguard, is convinced that something went wrong during the week the body was found in the pool. "I guess having been a lifeguard, I’ve learned to be extremely aware of my surroundings," Chauncy said. "I’m not sure if there was a guard on duty at the pool where the drowning occurred, but some type of protocol was not followed." While it is a curious event that occurred, Chauncy still …

Drowning remains a leading cause of death of children, and the rate is increasing each year, even at guarded facilities. That's because even with a diligent staff supervising, drownings occur because they are typically unrecognizable and happen within seconds. We developed and patented a drowning detection technology, http://www.WahoooSMS.com, after a needless drowning occurred in our hometown …   more ›

Lambert Jr. said in a statement that the agency’s deepwater pools will be closed while a review of safety and operations procedures is undertaken over the next 24 to 48 hours. Traffic Advisory: Paving on Lynn Fells Parkway, West Wyoming Tuesday Into Wednesday

Stoneham drivers are advised to seek alternate routes if possible from 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night through 5:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Drivers should avoid the intersection of West Wyoming Avenue and the Lynn Fells Parkway tonight, according a state Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) traffic advisory. The advisory issued on Tuesday states that the DCR will be paving West Wyoming Avenue in Stoneham and the Western-most portion of the Lynn Fells Parkway, starting at the Pond Street and West Wyoming intersection, from 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday night through 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning. "Motorists are advised to expect delays and to seek alternate routes if possible," the advisory said.
