Five Things: Donate to the Toys For Local Children Cause

Check out the five things column for Tuesday, Dec. 11.

Here are five things to know for Tuesday, Dec. 11 in Stoneham: 1. In case you missed it: Stoneham Police responded to a single-car accident on Forest Street Monday morning. 2. Make a donation: The Toys For Local Children drive is underway for those who would like to donate a new, unwrapped toy. They will be accepting toy donations until Dec. 20, and all donations will go directly to children in Stoneham. Collection boxes have been placed at Stoneham Fire Station, Stoneham Town Hall, Stoneham Bank on Montvale Ave, Stoneham Savings Bank on Main st, and Arielle's Cafe & Pizzeria. One of the best ways to get a feel for a given town,is to look at it's "Play-Grounds" & parks.Stoneham parks & playgrounds are wretched,and covered with dog feces.Does the town have an animal control officer,and if so what are its' functions?If there is,in fact,an animal control officer....it appears to be a "NO SHOW" job.   more ›

Best Place to Get Frozen Yogurt/Ice Cream in Stoneham: Dairy Dome

Find out who finished in second and third place in the contest.

It was a neck-and-neck battle for first place, but in the end Dairy Dome narrowly beat The Daily Scoop in our latest Readers' Choice contest for best place to get frozen yogurt/ice cream in Stoneham. Who Won the Poll? Of the 43 votes cast in our poll, Dairy Dome received 16 votes (37 percent) to earn 10 points for winning the poll, while The Daily Scoop finished in a close second place with 14 votes (32 percent) to tally eight points. Rounding out the top three and earning six points is Arielle's Cafe & Pizzeria with seven votes (16 percent). Finishing just outside of third place in fourth was Friendly's Restaurant with six votes (13 percent). However, fourth place doesn't earn points, as points are only awarded to the top three finishers…

Arielle's Cafe & Pizzeria Opens Under New Management [PHOTOS]

Methuen native Leonard "Lenny" Collins bought the Stoneham establishment on Feb. 1.

After spending years working at restaurants and retail stores in Massachusetts, Leonard "Lenny" Collins recently took the plunge by taking over ownership of Arielle's Cafe & Pizzeria. First-Time Buyer Collins, 56, of Methuen, purchased the 8 Central St. establishment on Feb. 1, signing a five-year lease. It's the first time Collins has owned his own business, but his family and a couple of employees are helping him out any way they can. "I want to be here at least five years. That's my goal," Collins said of the cafe located directly across from the Stoneham Fire Station. "Maybe 20 years or however long I can keep it."
