American Cancer Society Needs Road to Recovery Volunteer Drivers

The Hallmark Health System is hosting a pair of training session for those interested in becoming American Cancer Society Road to Recovery volunteer drivers Aug. 8 from 10-11 a.m. and Aug. 14, 1–2 p.m. at the Hallmark Health System Hematology and Oncology

[Editor's note: The following information derives from an American Cancer Society press statement.] The American Cancer Society Road to Recovery is a free program that provides local cancer patients with transportation to and from their chemotherapy and/or radiation treatments; volunteer drivers donate their time and use of their cars so patients can receive their lifesaving treatments. The schedule for volunteers is flexible, treatment appointments take place weekdays, primarily during business hours.  Hallmark Health System is hosting two special trainings for community members interested in becoming Road to Recovery volunteer drivers on Aug. 8 from 10-11 a.m. and Aug. 14, 1–2 p.m. at the Hallmark Health System Hematology and Oncology …

Relay For Life Stoneham Raises $100,000 for American Cancer Society [PHOTOS]

Volunteers in the fight against cancer brought the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life to Stoneham High School June 23.

The elderly and the young, patients and survivors, families and friends - hundreds of Stoneham residents came together for Stoneham's Relay for Life at Stoneham High School June 23. The ongoing relay, at first stifled by the unexpected torrents on rain, was forced into the gym for the beginning of its 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. marathon, but later made its way to the football field as relayers walked throughout the night to raise money for various cancer groups. The overall goal of the night was to raise $50,000. Fortunately, according to the event coordinator Maureen McGinness, Stoneham's relay crushed that number, raising more than $100,000. According to the event website, there were 401 participants and 37 teams that raise more than $102,000. The…

Stoneham Senior Center to Host Relay For Life Rally

The fundraiser kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at 136 Elm St.
