Merlot needs a home. Will it be yours?
[Editor's note: The following column was submitted by Lots of Love Cat Rescue.] Just look at this gorgeous face. Merlot is our movie star cat, with her attention-seeking ways, even in the midst of another cat's photo shoot, here comes Merlot to block the camera’s view. At about one year old, sweet Merlot is on the small side, all black with a dab of white on her chest, her thick sable-like coat can be addictive to the touch. Whenever the opportunity arises, Merlot seeks out a lap, just wanting to be near. Her story: She entered into a cat trap meant for another, was not spayed and nobody claimed her. Merlot is comfortable with being picked up and will approach even strangers for attention. We get a sense she wasn’t handled a lot because …

Will you adopt this playful duo of kittens?
[Editor's note: The following column was submitted by Lots of Love Cat Rescue.] Are you ready for some pure kitten energy? Well, we have it, packed into these adorable kittens. Saved just in time, from living a life outside, they are more than ready for their forever homes. And while they wait, they are stirring up lots of fun adventures with their very high energy level, scampering all around. At about eight months young, these shiny black beauties are well named – TNT, we have T (male) and NT (female). These busy siblings are extremely affectionate (lapcats, snugglers, purrers) are very confident and come running to you, not shy in the least. They do not need to be adopted out together, but if so, it would double the fun, keeping each …

Will you adopt this little dog?
On a crisp fall day, a PAWS volunteer was raking leaves in his yard. He thought he saw a cat’s tail waving behind the leaf pile and went to investigate. It was not a cat, but a small dog, who had wandered into the yard. Having no microchip or other identification, and no one coming forward to claim him, the dog, now named Gizmo, is looking for a new home. With his sweet face and irresistible, puppy-dog eyes, Gizmo is looks a bit like a gremlin. He is curious and playful. But, unlike Gizmo in the movie "The Gremlins," you can wash him, feed him after midnight and let him go out into the sun. He will not multiply into thousands of evil fur balls who will take over your home. On the contrary, feed, water and walk our Gizmo and you will have …

Will you adopt this cat?
Under the elegant grey and white fur of this handsome feline is a sweet pussycat with a heart of gold. Yes, I could be that guy you have been seeking, the one who will hang out with you when you are sick and still think you are beautiful, who will find little ways to show my affection (head butts and lap kneading rank high on my list), and who will listen to your every word. If you want to hang out and watch sports, I am ready to do that too. I am a gentle attention seeker and avid attention giver. What could be better than that? As most felines, I am a sun worshipper. Give me a sunny day on a rocking chair and I am in heaven. I do have to admit to a few quirks in my personality, like drinking from the faucet and needing an oval bowl …

Will you adopt this one-year-old sweetheart?
My name is Killiane and I am a warm-hearted, sweet, feline gal who believes you can learn more from listening than from speaking, which makes me quite a good companion. You will be able to tell me how your day went without me interrupting. Rest assured, there will be no midnight yowls coming from me. I may be sweet and behaved, but you can be sure that since I am a cat, I do have some diva in me. And why not? As you can see in my photos, I am a beautiful buff yellow tabby cat with an elegant white bib and pink nose. What the photographer did not capture was my love of being brushed and petted. I am also learning that toys can be lots of fun. I can go quite wild for a catnip mouse or a piece of string. At a year old, I may be past the …

Will you adopt these cats?
My name is Aster and I am a fluffy, black and white tuxedo cat. Just a teenager myself (barely nine months old), I have already raised four kittens. Those of you with children know how much work that is. My four are really cute: two tuxedos, a dark calico and a tabby. Before I find myself a new home, I want to be sure that my babies are adopted. So, you don’t mind if I brag about them, do you? Argo and Artemis are my two tuxedoed explorers. Sometimes I call them “Double Trouble” because they love to wrestle and tumble with each other. And they go nuts for fuzzy toy mice. I am so proud to see their stalking skills develop. They love humans and are outgoing and fun-loving little guys. Now Ari, she is my expert tail-chaser. Ari is also my …

Will you adopt this orange male cat?
A handsome lion-faced feline is on the market. Hurry and find me as I am a great catch. Without being arrogant, I do have what you are looking for. I am an even-tempered, well-mannered (no hisses from me), mellow dude who enjoys petting, rubs and all the fun things humans do to express their love. Once we get to know each other, watch out for my purr. I just love your attention. True to my lion-like nature, my life started with an adventure: I was born not breathing, but I have grown into a healthy and well-adjusted middle-aged guy. The only small remnant of my rough birth is a uniquely different paw, which gives me the look of being a hitchhiker or a perpetual thumbs-up kind of guy. Being an optimist, I think I favor the thumbs-up analogy…

PAWS recently received The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals grant after placing third in the "Share The Love" contest that took place in December 2010.
[Editor's note: The information below is from a press statement recently released by PAWS.] Last winter, The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) partnered with Subaru to match local rescues and shelters across the country with Subaru dealers. PAWS was one of over 100 shelters to participate in the “Share the Love” Contest events. At these events, communities and businesses were invited to collaborate to raise awareness for pet adoptions and fundraise for the local organizations. As a result, these agencies saved over 1,000 lives, raised over a combined $100,000 and increased traffic to both the shelters and the dealerships. In the Wakefield area, PAWS partnered with Subaru of Wakefield and several local …

Petite seal point Noelle may be small, but she'll fill your world with love.
Sweet and petite, bright and curious, I am Noelle, a seal point Siamese beauty with an amazing, sleek, slinky body and killer blue eyes. Despite the fact that I am “middle-aged,” I love to play with string toys and enjoy cozy hiding places. Yet, I will come running to greet you when you come home. True to my Siamese heritage, I am also an excellent conversationalist. But, as much as I love to talk, I can also be a good listener. And, if you want to lie down with me and cuddle, I will shine my baby blues on you and purr up a storm. Purring is definitely one of my specialties. While I am able to share my space with other felines (no dogs please), my dream would be a quiet home where I can be the focus of lots of patient attention. Well, …
