Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.] In less than 10 minutes, Stoneham Police were called to two accident scenes involving cars hitting houses on Jan. 21 during a snowstorm. At 10:50 a.m., police respond to Franklin Street on a report of car hitting a house. A wall of the building sustained minor damage. No EMS was needed. One vehicle towed from the scene. Several minutes later at 10:57 a.m., police were called to Main Street for a report of a car hitting a house. No one was injured. One car was towed from the scene. Though there has been a decline, fatalities resulting from automobile accidents in 2008 went down by about 16 percent as compared to the number of fatalities in 2007 in Massachusetts, according to the Massachusetts Highway Safety Division. However, 363 total deaths is still an alarming number considering we all get behind the wheel of a car nearly everyday of our lives. Serious injuries have also declined by about 10 percent for the same period, but again the number of injuries totaling 3,747 puts the issue into a more no-nonsense perspective.
