Stoneham Patch Whiz Kid of the Week Key to Awesomeness: Bryan runs track in winter and spring for the Spartans and attributes all of his success to his two coaches Xavier and Jonathan Garcia as well as his teammates. “Coming into the season I didn’t know what to expect because it was my first spring season as a track athlete,” Bryan said. “I felt a little bit behind the rest of the team because I only had one winter track season under my belt, but it was a very successful season because of the training I went through. I was very happy with how I performed then and I’m having an amazing spring season.” Bryan explained that his biggest strength on the track is his determination and toughness. “I know that I have the strength to power through…

Steve Keskinidis threw a no-hitter in a 2-0 victory over the Watertown High School Raiders on Tuesday.
Stoneham High School pitcher Steve Keskinidis tossed a no-hitter versus Watertown High School in a 2-0 win on Tuesday. Keskinidis threw seven innings of no-hit baseball, while walking one and punching out six Raiders en route to the victory. Keskinidis was down to his final out and had a 2-2 count when he reached back and threw a straight fastball right on the corner to strikeout a Raiders hitter. “It was the best feeling in the world as I walked off the mound after pumping my fist knowing I threw a no-hitter,” Keskinidis said. Keskinidis said that he had command of all of his pitches throughout the day, but admitted he threw some pitches more than others. “I was frequently throwing my fastball and curveball,” Keskinidis said. “Coach (…

The Stoneham High School senior runner participated in the state's first Steeple Chase over the weekend at Regis College.
Stoneham High School senior Brett Kotowski participated in the Steeple Chase at Regis College over the weekend which was the first event in Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association (MSTCA) Twilight meet. The Steeple Chase is an event that requires the runner to jump over five steeples and a water pit for a course of five laps around the track. Stoneham Patch Whiz Kid of the Week Key to Awesomeness: The lady Spartans (2-5 overall; 1-2 division) may be off to a slow start this season, but Sweet is proving why she is one of the top pitchers in the Middlesex League Small Division. “I attribute my success to my many coaches, teammates and my parents,” Sweet said. “Without them, I wouldn't be the player I am today. Spartans baseball threatens in the top of the seventh, but can't push home tying run in 3-2 road loss.
The top of the seventh inning began promisingly on Friday for the Stoneham High School baseball team, but the game ended with frustration after the Spartans failed to capitalize on two straight walks to start the frame. Wilmington reliever John Keough walked the first two batters of the frame, but then notched the first out of the inning on a sacrifice bunt, and stranded two runners in scoring position to polish off the 3-2 win with two straight strikeouts. After falling behind 2-0 in the opening inning, Stoneham scored twice on wild pitches. The second run was scored by Ben Allen, who ran home to tie the game in the top of the third. But Wilmington took the lead back in the home half of the inning and never let up, dropping the Spartans …
