Whiz Kids

Sean Bryan is This Week's Whiz Kid

The 17-year-old Stoneham High School athlete participates in winter and spring track. His 4x4 team won two medals at the state individuals and state relays.

Stoneham Patch Whiz Kid of the Week Key to Awesomeness: Bryan runs track in winter and spring for the Spartans and attributes all of his success to his two coaches Xavier and Jonathan Garcia as well as his teammates. “Coming into the season I didn’t know what to expect because it was my first spring season as a track athlete,” Bryan said. “I felt a little bit behind the rest of the team because I only had one winter track season under my belt, but it was a very successful season because of the training I went through. I was very happy with how I performed then and I’m having an amazing spring season.” Bryan explained that his biggest strength on the track is his determination and toughness. “I know that I have the strength to power through…

Stoneham High School Pitcher Throws No-Hitter Against Watertown

Steve Keskinidis threw a no-hitter in a 2-0 victory over the Watertown High School Raiders on Tuesday.

Stoneham High School pitcher Steve Keskinidis tossed a no-hitter versus Watertown High School in a 2-0 win on Tuesday. Keskinidis threw seven innings of no-hit baseball, while walking one and punching out six Raiders en route to the victory. Keskinidis was down to his final out and had a 2-2 count when he reached back and threw a straight fastball right on the corner to strikeout a Raiders hitter. “It was the best feeling in the world as I walked off the mound after pumping my fist knowing I threw a no-hitter,” Keskinidis said. Whiz Kids

Joe Brown is This Week's Whiz Kid

The 16-year-old Stoneham High School track team member runs the 100m dash, 4x100 meter relay, 200m dash and participates in the triple jump.

Stoneham Patch Whiz Kid of the Week Key to Awesomeness: Brown is close to achieving his goals that he set out at the beginning of the season that includes a 40-foot jump in the triple jump. “A couple of meets ago versus Burlington, I got 39 feet, 11.5 inches,” Brown said. “It was a bit of a disappointment, but I am continuing to strive for that goal and plan on beating it before the end of the season.” The track season may be long and arduous at times, but Brown has been successful throughout the year and attributes his success to his coaches. “The coaches are unbelievable,” Brown said. “Not only have they taught me and helped me to perform better, they have also changed me and my views altogether as an athlete and a student.” Brown said …

Stoneham Patch is hosting a Cover It Live online chat session with School Building Committee chairperson Jeanne Craigie and Superintendent Dr. Les Olson from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday to discuss the Stoneham Middle School project. What Questions Do You Have About the Future of the Stoneham Middle School Project?

School Building Committee chairperson Jeanne Craigie and Superintendent Les Olson will be answering questions about the school project on Thursday, May 10 from 11 a.m.-noon. Post up to two questions below that may be asked during the chat.

Stoneham High School Runner Participates in Massachusetts First Steeple Chase

The Stoneham High School senior runner participated in the state's first Steeple Chase over the weekend at Regis College.

Stoneham High School senior Brett Kotowski participated in the Steeple Chase at Regis College over the weekend which was the first event in Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association (MSTCA) Twilight meet. The Steeple Chase is an event that requires the runner to jump over five steeples and a water pit for a course of five laps around the track. The steeples are solid, dense, wide hurdles—two in the first 100 meters and one in the second 100 meters. The fourth steeple located in the third 100 meters also contains the water pit. The final steeple was on the last 100 meter straight-away. Kotowski was selected by his coaches to run the race because it was a meet in he needed to be a state qualifier. “I am a distance runner and I …
