I was surprised and disappointed last night that NO members of the Finance and ADVISORY Board spoke to ADVISE the Town Meeting on the issues regarding the Bike Path/Greenway. I thought that was the ADVISORY part of their job? The Town Meeting Book hand out simply said that they viewed the Articles as Unfavorable with out a word of explanation as to why they voted Unfavorable.
It was not just a "zoning article". It had clear financial implications, and quality of life impacts so it was definitely something they should have weighed heavily in on.
If the Finance Board wants to be taken seriously they need to step up and take positions on issues that are in the interest of the WHOLE Town. Unlike the Selectmen who may be influenced by votes and campaign contributions, the Finance Board can and should be the independent voice of the people of Stoneham. They should be our watch dogs and advocates for the WHOLE Town, not just for special interests.
