Clark & Lewis Announce State Grants Supporting Stoneham Cultural Community

Boston, MA - Senator Katherine Clark (D-5th Middlesex) and Representative Jason Lewis (D-31st Middlesex) are pleased to announce that the Massachusetts Cultural Council has approved $5,510 in funding to the Stoneham Cultural Council, as well as direct grants in the amount of $14,900 to community organizations in the Town of Stoneham.

The MCC’s announcement was made as part of a statewide funding initiative to support a variety of cultural programs and activities in communities throughout the Commonwealth.

“These grants play a central role as we work to develop our local cultural council programs,” said Senator Clark. “With the help of this grant, the Stoneham Cultural Council will be able to continue its mission of supporting local arts programs for the community.”

The Local Cultural Council Program supports thousands of community-based initiatives throughout Massachusetts and is the largest grassroots cultural funding network in the nation, providing quality cultural experiences available to all citizens.

“I am proud to support these cultural organizations and community groups in their work to enrich our lives and improve our communities through the arts, humanities, and sciences,” said Rep Lewis. “MCC grants help to ensure that these rich cultural resources in our communities and across the Commonwealth are accessible to our citizens today, and remain strong and healthy for future generations.”

In addition, the MCC has awarded direct grants in the amount of $14,900 to community organizations in the Town of Stoneham. Grants were awarded to The Folk Art Center of New England and the Stoneham Theater Company in the amount of $3,900 and $11,000 respectively. The grants are meant to promote the impact these organization have in the local community.

The MCC is a state agency supporting the arts, sciences, and humanities to improve the quality of life in Massachusetts and its communities. It pursues its mission through a combination of grants, services, and advocacy for nonprofit cultural organizations, schools, communities, and artists. MCC's total budget for the current fiscal year is $11.2 million, which includes annual grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and other sources.
