School Building Committee Devises Traffic Flow, Parking Plan for Stoneham Middle School Project

The Stoneham Building Committee scheduled a final site plan review for June 25 at 6 p.m in the High School Library.

The School Building Committee recently devised a traffic and parking plan for the project, according to a letter from the School Building Committee.

The traffic flow and parking plan, which is expected to run during the 2012-2014 school years, was created with help from the design and consultation team as well as town officials, according to the June 6 letter sent to parents and neighbors of and Middle School students.

"All traffic will approach the school from William Street up Pomeworth Street toward Washington Street," reads the letter. "We anticipate that the Board of Selectmen will declare Pomeworth to be one-way from William to Washington.

"No parent or visitor traffic will be allowed into the Central School driveway during student pick-up or drop-off. Students will be dropped off at the intersection of the Central School driveway, where they will be met by crossing guards and directed to the school building entrance.

"Parent and visitor parking will be along Pomeworth Street."

Stoneham Middle School Plan

"The main Middle School traffic entrance will be on Central Street at the northern entrance of the current Safe Routes to School driveway, closest to Elm Street," reads the letter. "Traffic will proceed around the driveway in a clockwise direction and drop off children at the school entrance along the driveway. Students should generally exit cars from the rear, driver-side doors. Traffic will exit onto Central Street opposite the bank."

There will be a limited number of visitor parking spaces in the current circular drive, reads the letter.

"Middle School students will be able to walk from Pomeworth Street past the Central School and into the Middle School through a fenced area that is separate from the construction area," reads the letter.

The Building Committee is slated to hold a final site plan review on June 25 at 6 p.m. in the Library.
