Veterans Eligible for Tax Credit Under Work Program

The town is offering veterans a tax credit under a new work program.

Those eligible for the program could earn up to $500 — in two credits of $250 in February and May — on their real estate taxes.

To qualify for the program, a resident must:

  • Be declared as a veteran under Mass General Law;
  • Own and occupy their home in Stoneham; and
  • Meet the income and asset limitations of the program.

Also, veterans should be capable of performing light-duty, maintenance work; although the program does allow for volunteer work.

Veterans may pick up applications at the Veterans’ Office at 136 Elm St. in the back of the Senior Center. Applications would then be submitted to the Assessors’ office at Town Hall beginning in March.
