Strong Winds Cause Minor Problems in Stoneham

Wires down and power outages were reported over the weekend.

Some power outages and wires down were reported over the weekend in Stoneham, according to emergency officials.

NSTAR Customers Lose Power

"Three Stoneham residents lost power this weekend as a result of the wind," wrote Michael Durand, a spokesperson for NSTAR, in an email Monday to Stoneham Patch. "All had power restored in under two hours."

Branches, Wires Down

The tended to a handful of reports of wires in the road over the weekend, according to Fire Chief Joseph Rolli.

"We had some wires down, but not like we did with the storm in October," Rolli said, referring to the snowstorm that hit the region during Halloween weekend in 2011. "We had some wires down and low-hanging wires from falling branches. Nothing out of of the ordinary. We had more (calls) than usual because of the wind, but it's not like when we had snow on the trees."

According to the fire log, firefighters responded to three calls for wires down on Saturday, including:

  • 11:01 a.m. at Bellevue and Converse streets
  • 12:20 p.m. at Pomeworth and Washington streets
  • 3:33 p.m. at Summer Street

Meanwhile, on Sunday there were no reports of wires down, according to the log.

The situation was vastly different to the snowstorm in late October last year, as the fire department , according to the fire log.
