Stoneham Police Warn of Ongoing Phone Scam

Stoneham Police are warning people of an ongoing scam, in which three people in town were contacted on Dec. 20, 21, and 22.

Callers demanded money from people, claiming that a friend or family member was injured in a car accident or was arrested and needed bail money. The callers demand money to ensure that this stranger would help the alleged victim.

Anyone who receives a call about a family member in trouble, contact the individual,” Det. Robert McKinnon “Don’t send any money to anyone. They say it’s an accident or an arrest and they need money immediately.”

Usually the callers want the money wired through money grants or Western Union.
