Massachusetts State Police to Hold Sobriety Checkpoint in Middlesex County This Weekend

Massachusetts State Police will hold a Sobriety Checkpoint this weekend in Middlesex County.

The checkpoint will be held Saturday, Dec. 21 into Sunday, Dec. 22 on a public way within Middlesex County.

According to State Police, the purpose of the checkpoint is "to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public’s awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways. It will be operated during varied hours, the selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary, safety will be assured, and any inconveniences to motorists will be minimized with advance notice to reduce fear and anxiety."

Terrible use of police resources, and a terrible precedent to set. The police have absolutely no right to stop anyone without cause, they have no right to impede anyone's activities. This is a serious over-reach of police powers.
