Community Update

Tonight met many concerned neighbors at the library about the possibility of 300 apartments being built on Weiss Farm. All are sad to see the farm go and respect Mrs. Weiss and her right to sell the property. She and the family did a lot of good for this town.We all must face change and change is good but uppermost in all our minds is "PUBLIC SAFETY" for all our community. Some may consider that additional apartments will bring more revenue to the town but at what cost. The taxes gained will not cover the need for increased services, the effect on the water table in that area, increased traffic on an existing 2 lane road (Franklin Street), insufficient transformer for electric as many of us know when everyone has their air conditioners on in the summer and we face black outs. Even if access to this development goes from Spring St the same perils exist as it does on Franklin St. This development does not just affect the abutters to Weiss Farm but the whole community at large as well as our neighbors-Melrose and Wakefield. since Spring St and Franklin St. connect us to our neighboring towns similar to Chapter 90 access roads. Our town officials must be made aware of the multiple issues that such a development will cause and since this developer will use Ch 40B it is imperative that State officials are made aware of our concerns. The most important thing is for everyone to be well informed and know the facts as a development of this magnitude will affect our children in our schools, the elderly for the current services they receive and the public at large for the services we take for granted in our town and expect.
