The Commons at Weiss Farm

It’s official!!!!!! The Commons at Weiss Farm has finally been drawn.  The projected development is for three 5-story buildings  !!!!!!!!!!  Is that 66 feet and doesn’t that dramatically increase Stoneham bylaws of 30 feet.  Realize there are other buildings in town higher than the 30 feet but wow 66 feet that’s HUGE.

This proposed construction of 264 apartment and 456 parking spaces is under review at Mass housing.  Franklin Street will become a two-lane parking lot in the morning for Stoneham and Melrose individuals attempting to get to work by getting access to Routes 93 and 128.  Car poolers taking children to Stoneham High School, Colonial Park Elementary, South Elementary and Greater Boston Academy leave early or you will never get your children to school on time or pick them up timely at the end of the school day.  Are you aware that there are 9 schools within a half-mile of Franklin St Will a project of this size cause redistricting of our schools?  No one can say how many children will reside on this property.

The quality of life of our children will be dramatically impacted as given the high concentration of schools in the already busy Franklin St. area, the addition of 264 apartments with 456 parking spaces plus the hundreds of automobiles on Franklin Street will create a serious safety issue for our children, Will we need more traffic directors, more police and more money to handle the situation.  !!!!!!!! Increase in your taxes.

Will our Seniors and disabled residents have the help they need of our emergency rescue services from our Fire Department?  We currently have under construction an assisted living complex with 88 apartments on Franklin Street in addition to several older citizens living in several condominiums, apartment buildings and single-family dwellings.  Will these individuals get the services they require timely based on the severe traffic impact this huge project will create?

These are just a few issues to consider with this Too Big for Stoneham project.  There are issues about Wetlands, Water, Sewerage, and basic utilities that will be impacted. The well-being and safety of our whole community will be affected. Each one of us has a significant stake in this development your family, your livelihood and the quality of life as you now know it will be changed.  Voice your concerns and your opinions by attending the public meeting at Town Hall November 12th.  Your chosen town officials need to know your concerns.  Please come and speak out.
