Letter to the Editor: Stoneham Businessman Vying for Selectman's Seat

Board of Selectmen candidate Tom Boussy asks Stonehamites to elect him on April 3.

[Editor's note: The following Letter to the Editor was submitted by Stoneham resident Tom Boussy.]

It is with great pride and a commitment to public service that I announce my candidacy for the office of Selectman in the Town of Stoneham.

My name is Tom Boussy. I have been married to my wife Julie, a registered nurse, for 20 years and we have two beautiful children; Sarah and Hannah. My wife and I have been very involved in our community from sponsoring and coaching youth sports teams, to supporting Girl Scouts and our school system at fundraisers and activities.

For the past 12 years, I have owned and operated my own business, THB Company, Inc., which has provided HVAC testing and balancing, and energy conservation services to large universities, healthcare institutions and many other types of industries.

I am running for Selectman because we need new leadership in our town’s government. We need to change the "business as usual" approach at . I strongly believe that Stoneham has to take the following steps so that we can move in a positive direction:

  • We need to take a “smart growth” approach toward attracting businesses that respect Stoneham’s character while revitalizing our downtown.
  • We need fiscal responsibility in Stoneham so that budget decisions one year don’t lead to trash or athletic fees in the next.
  • We need to develop a long-term plan to maintain our town’s roads, schools and public safety.
  • We need to keep in mind those on fixed incomes in our community, particularly our senior citizens, when making decisions.
  • We need to get the people of Stoneham more involved in our local government.

I have been in the neighborhoods and meeting the residents of Stoneham. I am confident that we can work together toward making Stoneham a better place to live. I respectfully ask for your vote on April 3.

Tom Boussy

Tom - You have my vote as those are the issues most important to me. I have had to study town government to understand who is our spokesman is (I still don't know)? We don't have a mayor because we are not a city. However, mayors are usually the "visionaries" for their city. A town administrator does not possess that power or that skill set. I know our selectman work hard for the town but we are all tired of watching their meetings when the main subject always seems to be the "stabilization fund". We need to get Stoneham back on the map! Believe it or not, a random poll of Boston workers have no idea where Stoneham is! Mention that the town is located near Melrose or Winchester and you get an immediate response. Good luck!

I support Tom Boussy too. Tom is the real deal. He has a terrific vision for our town. Ask yourself if you think our town has improved in the past 10-15 years. How about the past 5 years? Look at our neighboring towns - are they suffering as bad as we are? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you are probably satisfied with our current town leaders and think we are moving in the right direction. That’s fine – we all have our own opinions. After all, our current town leaders are good people who have worked hard for our town and gave it their best effort. However I am tired of hearing “we can’t do that because…”, or “that won’t work because…”, or “we have already tried it and it won’t work”. Instead, Tom has the energy, creativity and wherewithal to find solutions to our town’s problems. He has the vision to help revitalize and rejuvenate our once thriving town. The time is long overdue to bring in a fresh face. Someone with energy and new ideas. Someone who is not afraid to push the status quo. Someone who wants to make Stoneham a vibrant community once again where people want to come and stay, not drive through. Tom Boussy is the person that can start moving Stoneham back in the right direction. I urge you to vote for Tom on April 3rd.

Thanks Rich, we appreciate all your help and support as well as all the other people who have given Tom support and countless hours of their own personal time to help make this campaign successful. We have been overwhelmed by people's response and acknowledgement that the people in this town want better. We are proud of our children that have come out every weekend and their friends to help hold signs. It has been fun and exciting to see young people become involved in the process and excited about about being part of a community. They are taking pride in their town, something that has been lacking in Stoneham for years. They are our future voters and maybe they will make the decision to make Stoneham the place to raise a family like Tom and I did. However I was shocked at the behavior of one individual today during sign holding. We teach our children to respect one another and tolerate our differences even if they are in contrast with our own ideas and beliefs. We have zero tolerance for bullying, and attempt to be role models for our children. The display this morning was disheartening and in sharp contrast to what the people of Stoneham want to see from members of their community. Lets concentrate on what we can do to make Stoneham a great place to live and raise our families, obviously after this mornings event, things need to change. Julie Boussy

I have heard of this 'event'...I'd like to know 'more of what happened here'... I have a Facebook Account under 'Frank Pignone'.. Please put it.. right on my wall.. As a Former Selectman... and active citizen for years.. I don't want this behavior for the world to see passing through. Was there another candidate involved in this ? I'd like to know.. 'soon'.. Over the last several years.. there appears to be a few people who 'believe' they can form an 'inner power' circle of influence on 'how to circumvent and 'overpower' through 'manipulative'.. and 'staged'.. activities... At Town Meeting we have already taken the 'first steps' toward ending this 'disease'... More to come.. Please email me as soon as you can..Thank you. Frank Pignone and.....'Good luck'..

My family have been supporting the Boussy campaign because he tells the truth and stands by his word. Myself, my husband Al, and our 3 children have been holding signs on early mornings and helping out. I believe we can move forward and have a better Stoneham. Good Luck Tom.
