Italian Dining Found at TreMonte in Woburn

Check out the latest "Bites Nearby" column.

Overview: , an Italian restaurant in Woburn Center, is a popular hot spot for foodies and Woburnites alike who enjoy their Italian cuisine a little more upscale. Run by chef Anthony Contarino, the restaurant has been a staple in Woburn for eight years. Chef Contarino trained as a French chef at Johnson & Wales but was inspired by his Grandma’s Italian home cooked food. TreMonte serves up Italian classics that we are all familiar with while also peppering the menu with fancier fare inspired by the regions of Florence, Naples and Tuscany. On weekend evenings the place gets really busy, so call ahead for a reservation. Keep an eye out for our own Mayor Scott Galvin who we saw dining at TreMonte.

Décor: With dark wood furniture and low lighting, TreMonte has a moody ambience that is perfect for a fancy dinner. Romantic-themed pieces of artwork line the walls. When you enter, there is a main bar to your left that has several tables. In the rear of the restaurant is the kitchen and a tucked away dining area.

Beverages: What would an Italian Restaurant be without a selection of vino? TreMonte carries various Italian and international wines and a decent selection of beers. They also have a full bar and can make a variety of delicious cocktails. For an after-dinner drink, TreMonte serves dessert wines, scotch and cognac.

Appetizers: The “Antipasti” menu features tried and true favorites like antipasto, bruschetta, and fried calamari. You can also get melanzana (eggplant with sauce and cheese), sausage with spinach and beans, arancini (fried risotto balls), pork bracciola (stuffed pork tenderloin), shrimp grand marnier, mussels and littleneck clams.

Entrees: The entrée menu is divided into four sections: Insalata, Classics, Entrees and Pasta. “Insalata” is Italian for salad and along with their house and Caesar salads, TreMonte offers an iceberg wedge, caprese (tomato, basic and mozzarella) and a special rustico salad. The Classics section features everyone’s Italian favorites including chicken, veal and eggplant parmesan. I highly recommend the Vinegar Pepper Pork Chops entrée that comes with potatoes. The Entrée menu includes baked haddock and shrimp, pork, stuffed chicken, lamb, filet mignon, along with a fish, steak and veal special of the day. You can’t have-a the Italian food without-a the pasta! Love ravioli? TreMonte has butternut squash, wild mushroom and lobster. They also have pasta served with bolognese and pink sauces, a sausage and broccoli rabe platter and a bowl of fruiitti di mare that comes with a hearty selection of seafood.

Sides: Each item on the “Entrée” portion of the menu comes with two selections from TreMonte’s “Contorni” or sides menu. We highly recommend their delicious Potato Gratin that is layered with thin slices of potato, fontina cheese, chives and proscuitto. They also have mushrooms, mashed potatoes, polenta, spinach and grilled vegetables.

Desserts: Don't leave without some dessert. If you have a sweet tooth, savor TreMonte's Italian delicacies like their lemon ricotta cake, cannoli and their tiramisu. We highly recommend their profiteroles which comes filled with delicious cappuccino gelato. They also have a small bites selection of miniature desserts for a cheaper price as well as different cakes, gelatos, sorbets and chocolates depending on the day.

Service: Call ahead to make a reservation or stop by for dinner. There is plenty of seating in the dining area and the bar and tables at the bar have full service.
