Conservation Commission provides review on Weiss Farm

Stoneham Conservation Commission delivers letter to Board of Selectmen on the  unstable structural material at Weiss Farm that would entrap large quantities of ground water.  You can read the letter as posted to the Stoneham Government Web site (http://www.stoneham-ma.gov/the-commons-at-weiss-farm/pages/letters-submitted-to-board-of-selectmen-by-department-heads ).  There are also letters from the Police Chief , the building inspector, the Board of Health and Jason
Lewis.

The former Chairman, Mr. Conway who has expertise in engineering, did the Conservation Commission letter and is the most thought provoking.  This  review was done in 2011 prior to Corcoran Group coming on board and supports the argument that the majority of acreage at Weiss Farm due to peat, Wetlands and on-site soil erosion is unbuildable.

A development of this magnitude would cause water to flow downstream and flood our neighbor Melrose.  There would be substantial off-site erosion as well which would be harmful to the surrounding neighborhoods, public high school, assisted living and Kinder Care.

We have 10 days before the deadline that the Board of Selectmen must send their comments to Mass Housing.  Please send your letters in to let them know of your concerns.  For information check our friendsofstoneham.org and Friends of Stoneham on Face Book.

Thank you Conservation Commission for the in depth letter to our  Selectmen
