Obituary: Robert O'Melia

Robert O’Melia – Age 85, beloved husband of Jean M. (Smith) O’Melia died Monday at their home surrounded by his loving family. 

He was born in Winchester, February 19, 1928, the son of the late Joseph and Genevieve (Brennan) O’Melia. He was raised in Stoneham and moved to Billerica 25 years ago. 

Mr. O’Melia served in the Coast Guard during WW II and in the Army during the Korean War. For 18 years he was a Stoneham Police Officer and then a member of the Stoneham Fire Department for another 17 years. 

Besides his wife, Mr. O’Melia is survived by his daughters, Karen Sherry and her husband Eric of Woburn, Kathleen Dougherty and her husband Joseph of Billerica, Kristen O’Melia of Woburn, Kim Noonan and her husband Richard of Burlington; his son, Robert O’Melia and his wife Laura of Centerville; his sister, Mary Galpin of Florida and 14 grandchildren, Eric, Patrick and Meaghan Sherry, Brian, Sean and Kaleigh Dougherty, Christopher, Michael, Jill and Kara Noonan and Nolan, Connor, Brendan and Matthew O’Melia. He was the brother of the late Joseph and Genna O’Melia. 

O’MELIA – Of Billerica, Sept. 23, Robert O’Melia, Funeral Friday from the SWEENEY MEMORAIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica at 11 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Andrew’s Church, Talbot Ave., Billerica at 12 Noon relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, 7 Mill Brook Rd, Wilton, NH 03068.
