Survey Says: Talk to Us!

Cross-posted from the Growing Stoneham blog: http://growingstoneham.wordpress.com/2014/03/21/survey-says-talk-to-us/

Part of my stance as Selectman has been to push for more communication between Stoneham residents and the Town. It is always my goal to put into practice what I call for, which is why you have this blog to read. I’d like to continue moving broader channels forward, so I wanted to ensure as many people as possible saw this mailer notice that went out to residents. We are a Town looking for solutions to avoid isolation, and with that goes decision-making with maximum collaboration:

Hello Residents of Stoneham,

Town Meeting participation is significantly lower today than it was just 10 years ago. Town Meeting takes place two times a year at the Stoneham Town Hall in the Fall and Spring. It’s a meeting where any registered voter can propose a change or something new. Then citizens in the audience vote by a show of hands on those proposals which could be anything from the budget, real estate development, to the bike path.

First, I am trying to get the real reasons why attendance has fallen. Second, once I understand the reasons I’d like to engage in ways we can make Town Meeting a place where there are more voices and opinions representing the community.

Additionally, I encourage all residents to share their feedback/ thoughts regarding a trash solution. The State of MA is aggressively working on their plan towards ZeroWaste by 2020. To avoid further costs imposed on us by the State we need to reduce trash and increase recycle/ reuse methodologies.

What concerns do residents have? Please share them with Town Administraor, Dave Ragucci: dragucci@ci.stoneham.ma.us
