Community Corner

Open Forum on Community Preservation Act

There will be an informational meeting about the Community Preservation Act (CPA) at 7:30 p.m. at the Stoneham Historical Society, 36 William St.

Recent Town Meeting attendees passed Article 12, which will put on the April 2013 ballot a proposal to adopt CPA with a 1 percent surcharge on property taxes. The CPA enables cities and towns to create a local dedicated fund for open space, historic preservation, community housing and outdoor recreation projects with some funding from the state CPA Trust Fund.

Let's get the conversation going about how the CPA funding is generated, how the funds can be spent and what projects could be funded if the vote in April is favorable.
