Stoneham's Michael Day Running for State Rep.

Stoneham's Michael Day is running for state representative in the 31st Middlesex District, which includes Stoneham and Winchester.

Below is more information from his campaign:

-----------------

He and his wife Megan live and are active in Stoneham, where they are raising their three sons, Conor, Ryan and Finnegan. Michael founded his own law firm in 2012 after working as a Special Assistant District Attorney in Middlesex County and practicing law at Mintz Levin in Boston for nearly ten years. He is one of the leading advocates of civil rights and civil liberties issues in the Boston Bar Association, and sits on the Board of Directors of a non-profit organization dedicated to ending child abuse.

The sixth of seven children, Michael was born in Winchester Hospital and now lives in Stoneham with his wife Megan and their three sons, Conor, Ryan and Finnegan. The Days are active members of their community, where Michael coaches for Stoneham Youth Hockey and Megan serves on the Stoneham Conservation Commission. Michael is from here, and he chose to raise his family here because he understands the communities that make our towns so special. He wants to go to the State House to ensure that our children enjoy the same opportunities and advantages he received, and to guarantee that our seniors can afford to continue to live in the communities they helped to build.

Michael graduated from Phillips Academy Andover and UMass-Amherst before earning his law degree from Georgetown University, where he attended the night division while working a full-time job in Washington, D.C. He understands that the keys to the success of our towns are strong public schools that teach our children the value of hard work and the importance of social justice – not schools that just teach our children to pass tests.

Michael worked for nearly ten years as a trial attorney with the firm of Mintz Levin in Boston. He also served as a Special Assistant District Attorney in Middlesex County. In 2012, Michael and his two partners launched their own law firm, Torres, Scammon & Day, LLP. As a small business owner, he has seen firsthand what the skyrocketing costs of health insurance can do to a new company and he wants to work for us to rein in health care costs.

As co-chair of the Boston Bar Association’s Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Committee, Michael reviews legislation proposed in the State House and calls attention to issues ranging from the right to privacy and freedom from government interference to free speech and voting rights. He is finishing his sixth year as a member of the Board of Directors of Parents Helping Parents, a non-profit organization dedicated to ending the cycle of child and domestic abuse and is an elected member of the Stoneham Town Democratic Committee, where he works to elect leaders who share our priorities and values.
