“Pressed for time during routine 15-minute office visits, doctors may find it easier and more practical to write prescriptions for painkillers or antidepressants than to delve into the life troubles that may be aggravating physical or psychological symptoms. “Many physicians don’t feel prepared to teach stress management techniques, and it raises the question as to whether it’s something that a doctor does or perhaps that a health coach should do,” said Dr. Russell Phillips, director of Harvard Medical School’s Center for Primary Care.””

One’s ability to feel in control of their live and manage their stress requires training.  It’s better if this training is daily, but at a minimum it has to be consistent and ideally, it becomes a lifestyle – a lifestyle that allows you to do anything you want.

As a professional martial arts instructor, at least half of the people who are looking for martial arts cite stress relief as one of their main reasons for wanting training.

First, what is stress?  Stress is “pressure or tension exerted on a material object” and “a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances”

The physiological affects of stress do not leave you just because you turn your mind of watching tv.

Why does traditional martial arts training relieve stress?  It’s a self-defense not against a mugger, but also self-defense against negative thinking, anger, depression, disease, illness, and the affects of aging.  The best part is that the same training covers all these things.

In Eastern medicine, all of one’s health problems are caused by the individual.  The enlightened individual who accepts this as a fact now can be empowered to take full control of their health and their stress.  The human being is the root cause of their health, both good and bad.

When students invest in the time and effort to practice martial arts, they take their physical body and their minds through millennia-old process of resetting themselves.

We teach a martial arts lifestyle where you learn how martial arts movements affect not simply one’s strength and flexibility but one’s energy levels and organ systems.  We teach how one’s mind can be trained to focus and relax in any situation.

Everyone wants these benefits but it’s only when the individual is genuinely motivated will they take action.  The one’s who take action receive the keys to ensuring their long-term health that no one can take away.
