Lahey, Winchester Deal Comes Under Review

There are concerns about what the sale could mean for health care costs.

The state’s Health Policy Commission said it will review Lahey Health System’s plan to purchase Winchester Hospital and its facilities.

The commission monitors cost and competition trends in Massachusetts and said that an initial staff review “raises the potential for Lahey to leverage higher prices through joint (insurance) contracting with Winchester” in the health care market north of Boston, according to a statement from commission executive director David Seltz, reported The Boston Globe.
