Stoneham Native Emilie Irving Receives Graduation Award from MGH Institute of Health Professions

Stoneham native Emilie Irving is the 2014 recipient of Julie Atwood Award for Excellence from the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston.

Irving, who earned a 3.9 GPA while in the two-year Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program, consistently provided patient care with a flexible and open mind, an excellent work ethic, and strong critical thinking skills that were mindful of the needs of diverse populations.

The Atwood award is named after the former director of the Massachusetts General Hospital Speech-Language Pathology Department, and professor emerita at the health sciences graduate school, who helped create the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. It is given annually to a graduating student who possesses a strong base of academic knowledge, applies theory to delivering clinical service in an exemplary manner, demonstrates the highest values and ethics, applies research findings to clinical practice, and displays the potential for professional excellence and leadership.
