Community Corner

~Calling All Artists~

You may have noticed the eye-catchng artwork that decorates the public utility switchboxes in other towns such as Malden, Medford and Somerville. Now's your chance to exhibit your civic pride by volunteering for a similar public art project in Stoneham!

If you have artistic talent and live, work or volunteer in Stoneham, consider submitting a design for one of the public utility boxes around Stoneham. If your entry is chosen, you will be asked to prepare and prime a switchbox and then execute your design on 2-4 sides of the box (some boxes don't lend themselves to painting all 4 sides).

StonehamBank has generously made the first donation for the purchase of supplies, paint, brushes, drop clothes, etc. so you only need to invest your time to make Stoneham shine.

The first switchbox to go from 'drab to fab' will be the one in front of Round's Hardware Store at the intersection of Montvale Ave and Main Street thanks to volunteer Peg Drummey.

Applications are available on the Town's web site at: hiip://www.stoneham-ma.gov/ on the first page under "Town News". Or you can email your request to : stonehamswitchboxart@gmail.com

Develop your own design or be part of a team to create vibrant scenery and conversation pieces where now there are only monochrome utility boxes.

Celebrate the power of pride!
