Drivers who are considering a switch to electric vehicles or current vehicle owners looking for a place nearby to charge their rides have a couple of places to find their outlet, but none right next to Stoneham. For Stonehamites, the closest charging stations are in Lynnfield at Kelly Nissan on Route 1, and at 4 Grant St. in Lexington, according to crowd-sourced website carstations.com. There are also charging stations in Cambridge at the Traffic Department's 1st Street location and the Cambridgeside Galleria.  Carstations allows users to upload new car charging locations to a Google map and…
It’s a question we get asked a lot: “How do I submit a Letter to the Editor?” And with the the Annual Town Election coming up, with a host of candidates on the ballot and the Community Preservation Act, Town Meeting in May and even the upcoming special Senate election, we thought there was no better time to answer. (Don’t get us wrong, Letters to the Editor don’t have to be political. Sometimes the small issues resonate the most.) There are two ways to submit a Letter to the Editor to Stoneham Patch: 1. As a blog post. Submitting a Letter to the Editor as a blog post is easy (really as simple…
Sample ballot for the 2013 Stoneham Town Election.
Stoneham has several elections coming up including the annual town election in April, Town Meeting in May and the U.S. Senate primary. And one deadline to register to vote is this week. You can see a sample Town Election ballot attached to this article, provided by Town Clerk Maria Sagarino, showing the various candidates for office. Don't forget to turn the ballot over in the booth, where you'll find the one question on this year's ballot—the Community Preservation Act (CPA). Stonehamites have written on Patch both in favor of the CPA and in opposition to the CPA. Here are the dates of the …
You know the old saying "Fall back, spring forward." Well, it's almost time to spring forward.  We received a reader question on the date Daylight Saving Time begins this year.  Well, you ask, Patch answers. This year we move the clocks overnight on Sunday, March 10. Don't forget to move your clocks ahead one hour before going to bed Saturday night (Don't worry, we'll remind you again). Officially Daylight Saving is 2 a.m. on Sunday. Yes, moving the clocks ahead does mean we all lose an hour of sleep, but in return it will be light later in the day. Besides, the lost hour falls on Saturday …

The forums will be held at Stoneham TV and are as follows: School Committee Candidates and Board of Assessors Thursday, March 14 at 7 p.m. School Committee candidates  Jeanne E. Craigie (candidate for re-election) Julianne DeSimone Caroline Colarusso Board of Assessors …
Editor's note: This article was corrected on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 1:58 p.m. The Blizzard of '13 led to a long weekend for Stoneham Public School students two weekends ago, but of course there's no such thing as a free lunch. (Actually, there is in Stoneham Schools, if you're an eligible family.) While the kids might enjoy the day off in the winter, they have to make it up in June. Which leads to this week's question: When's the new last day of school for Stoneham? According to the Superintendent's Office, there have been three snow days so far this year. The original last day of school was …
Welcome to You Ask... Patch Answers where we answer readers questions. We recently received questions about clearing neighborhood fire hydrants to help fire departments. But how much of the hydrant should we clear? How many feet around the hydrant will help the firefighters? Here is your answer: According to Stoneham Fire Chief Joe Rolli, fire departments need about two feet of snow cleared away from the hydrant. "The front of the hydrant is most important because that is where the hose gets hooked up," said Chief Rolli. Also, the nut on top of the hydrant must be clear, as firefighters …
