Three Contested Races Expected on Election Day in Stoneham

Incumbents will be challenged by a handful of candidates looking to become either a Constable, Selectman or Town Clerk.

There will be three contested races when election day arrives this spring, according to the finalized list of municipal and school candidates provided by the Town Clerk's Office Tuesday evening.

Here is a look at the candidates whose paperwork has been certified by the Town Clerk and whose names will appear on the April 3 town ballot:

Assessor (One seat, three-year term):

  • (i) Craig Celli

Board of Health (One seat, three-year term):

  • (i) John Scullin

Board of Selectmen (Two seats, three-year terms):

  • Thomas Boussy
  • Anthony Kennedy
  • (i) Paul Rotondi
  • (i) Robert Sweeney

Constable (Three seats, three-year terms):

  • Brian Johnston
  • David Luciano
  • (i) Robert Moreira
  • (i) Robert Nardone
  • Edward Westhaver

Library Trustees (Two seats, three-year terms):

  • (i) Jane Francis
  • Marina Memmo

Planning Board (One seat, five-year term):

  • (i) August Niewenhous

School Committee (Two seats, three-year terms):

  • (i) Marie Christie
  • (i) Shawn McCarthy

Town Clerk (One position for remaining year of John Hanright’s term):

  • Kevin McLaughlin
  • Paul Means
  • Michael Rotondi
  • Maria Sagarino
  • Mary Cerasuolo Zatta

Voters will have the opportunity to vote on each of the municipal and school races, as well as the proposition 2 1/2 debt exclusion question related to the Stoneham Middle School project. With regard to the project, the debt exclusion will likely ask voters to approve a tax increase over a 20-year period to cover the cost of construction. However, once the bonded project is paid in full, the tax increase goes away.

Residents who haven't registered to vote have until 8 p.m. on March 14 to register to vote in the town election, according to Sagarino.

Would The Patch be able to gather information about the candidates in the races above? That would be super helpful!

Hi Steve,

We'll try to put together profiles for the contested races ahead of the candidates' nights in mid-March. FYI: Constable and Board of Selectmen will be on Stoneham TV on March 19 at 7 p.m., while Town Clerk candidates are on March 20 at 7 p.m.

Thanks.

Hi Mark,
Just wondering if you got these names from the ballot? My name is mis spelled, I did'nt know if it was your typo or if I need to check with the clerks office?

Thanks,
Brian Johnston
