A Somerville District Court judge ordered a Stoneham father and son accused of embezzling more than $50,000 from the West Medford Little League to surrender their passports and not leave the Commonwealth while their charges are pending.

Stanley Komins, 78, and is son, Stephen Komins, 45, both of Stoneham, appeared before Judge Neil Walker Friday morning for arraignment on their charges. Not guilty pleas were entered for both.

Stanley Komins was the longtime president of the league's board of directors while Stephen Komins spent many years as the league's treasurer.

Authorities said both men used their positions "to steal from the youth little league, taking money that was meant to be used for the West Medford youth baseball community for their own personal use," according to a statement when both men were charged.

Neither man appeared with an attorney and Walker agreed to have the court appoint them counsel.

They both declined to speak to the press both upon leaving the courtroom and later when leaving the courthouse.

Shortly after being charged, Stanley Komins told Fox 25 he had "no idea" about the charges.

Stanley Komins is charged with larceny by embezzlement over $250. Stephen Komins, 45 is charged with larceny by embezzlement over $250, uttering a false check, and forgery by check.

The men are next scheduled to appear in court for a pretrial hearing Feb. 8 at 9 a.m.
