[Editor's note: The following column was submitted by Lots of Love Cat Rescue.]

Kitten season is here and we are scrambling to keep up with phone calls about momma cats giving birth to their babies outside. To try and rescue these innocent creatures, it takes an enormous amount of time and money. It’s a heartwrenching endeavor, to those who spend countless days and nights trying to save them from a tough life of a feral, reproducing over and over.

All this suffering and havoc can all stop, if only people would spay/neuter their cats. We do our best.

Kittens are quickly adopted, but what about the caring moms? Often left behind and added to the adult cats we already have. Won’t you please consider a young, tiny mom like Spirit? She’s such a sweet girl, a gorgeous brown tabby with enduring blue-green eyes that is about three years old.

Spirit was found living in a shed, nursing her kittens. Her uterus fell apart while spaying, which means she would have died if left outside.

Spirit is a friendly, healthy girl with a soft temperament; just a tad shy at first meeting. She’s fine with other cats and mellow dogs.

With July 4 coming, Spirit wants to celebrate her own independence, safe and sound with a place of her own, being loved by you.
