September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation is teaming up with other charities to raise money to help change the lives of millions of children who have been diagnosed with childhood cancer.

September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) and many childhood cancer charities are on a mission to get the word out there to make a difference in millions of kids’ lives.

During the month of September, ALSF's “Host a Lemonade Stand” program is an easy and fun way for children of all ages to make a difference for other kids battling the disease.

ALSF is also partnering with American Greetings to enlist volunteers in the Stoneham region and across the country to host Strawberry Shortcake Alex’s Lemonade Stands throughout awareness month. Participants will receive specially branded materials and an opportunity to win a strawberry shortcake product pack.

Gillian Kocher, spokesperson for ALSF, wants individuals to get involved.

“Childhood cancer is the number one disease killer of children under the age of 15 in the United States,” Kocher said. “The simple fact is that children are dying from cancer and even those who do survive face lifelong and life-altering side effects.”

Another way to get involved is the "Leap for Life and Skydive" for a cause. Participants who choose to take the leap, can sign up at a skydive center in their region, create a fundraising page and invite their family and friends to show their support. The event takes place Sept. 24 and Sept. 25.

ALSF is also teaming up with another childhood cancer charity called Max’s Ring of Fire to host the first Max’s Ring of Fire Lemon Run in San Diego on Sept. 25. The event will bring together athletes of all calibers to run or walk 4.6 miles in honor of 46 children who are diagnosed with childhood cancer each weekday.

Teleflora is also offering customers the opportunity to purchase floral bouquets from the Sunny Day Pitcher Collection in support of Alex’s Lemonade and for each Sunny Day pitcher bouquet sold at Teleflora.com, 10% of the revenue will be donated to ALSF.

ALSF is stressing for individuals to get involved even through the social media including Twitter and Facebook. Post a message, shoot a text and show your support online as well. Supporters can text “Lemonade” to 85944 to make a $10 donation. Every little bit helps.
