Police Log: Armed Robbery, Lost Dog and a Trapped Raccoon Among the Calls Handled by Stoneham Officers

At 10:02 p.m. Jan. 14, Stoneham Police respond to Dairy Mart on Franklin Street for a report of a robbery in progress. Upon arrival, the clerk told officers that an armed robbery had just occured. The suspect was described as a white man with a beard, wearing a brown hoodie, a rubber mask and black gloves. The clerk also stated that the suspect was carrying a handgun. Police issued a be-on-the-lookout (BOLO) for the suspect to area police agencies. No arrest has been made.

@9:02 a.m.: Police called to Main Street for a report of a trapped animal. DPW paged to remove a sewer grate to free a raccoon.

@11:52 a.m.: Police respond to Lindenwood Road for a report of a possible domestic. Claudia Mendez, 26, of 20 Lindenwood Road, Stoneham, was arrested and charged with assault and battery on a disabled person over the age of 60.

@5:41 p.m.: Police called to the area of Central and Elm Streets for a report fg a minor motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported, and both parties exchanged paperwork prior to an officer's arrival. 

Jan. 15

@5:38 a.m.: Police called to Unicorn Park Drive in Woburn for a fire. Stoneham Fire provided Woburn with mutual aid during the blaze.

@5:30 p.m.: Police called to a Franklin Street apartment complex for a report of a woman stuck between the second and third floors. Woman freed shortly after the call.

@11:09 p.m.: Police respond to Emerson Street following a report of vandalism. Four teenagers allegedly ran through a fence. Police to investigate.

Jan. 16

@12:52 p.m.: Police called Pond Street for a report of a found rottweiler in the area. The animal control officer was unavailable, so the dog was taken to the VCA in Wakefield.

Jan. 17

@8:41 a.m.: Police respond to Woodland Road for a report of a motor vehicle crash. State Police were notified. The drivers declined transport to a hospital.

@7:27 p.m.: Police called to Rodgers Road on a report of a car that was vandalized by eggs sometime in the morning. Police to investigate.

@10:54 p.m.: Police respond to Main Street following a box alarm activation. A steam unit reportedly caused the alarm to go off. Box recalled minutes later.

Jan. 18

@9:07 a.m.: Police respond to Redstone Shopping Center for a report of a single-vehicle accident into a pole. The driver refused being transported to a hospital.

@11:27 a.m.: Police called to Main Street for a report of a hit and run. A man's vehicle was struck while he was in the parking lot. Police to investigate.

@2:29 p.m.: Police respond to a two-car crash at on Franklin Street. No injuries were reported. Paper exchange conducted by drivers.
