Friendly's Revamping Menu, Restaurant Decorations

The iconic Massachusetts-based restaurant chain, which still has a location in Stoneham, is undergoing a host of changes, MassLive.com reports.

After 100 Friendly's restaurants closed in 2011 after the restaurant chain filed for bankruptcy the stores will have a new look, atmosphere and menus, MassLive.com reports.

Stoneham's Friendly's at 611 Main St., which survived the bankruptcy, isn't yet one of the renovated restaurants.

So far the restaurant chain has renovated 10 of its 361 restaurants, all in Western Massachusetts and Maine, MassLive.com reports, with a revamped menu, nostalgic retro singage and employees re-interviewed and rehired.

The revamped menu also has throwbacks to the Friendly's of yesteryear, according to the report, such as the return of the restaurant's fried chicken dinner and using hard ice cream instead of soft serve for milkshakes.

The company aims to renovate another 30 restaurants this year.
