Breaking News: Proposition 2 1/2 Override Fails, Means Ousts Rotondi in Moderator Race

The Election Day results are in for the override and the only contested race in Stoneham.

In the only contested race on Election Day Tuesday in Stoneham, Larry Means ousted incumbent Mike Rotondi for the town moderator post. Means collected 2,002 votes to Rotondi's 763.

Meanwhile, voters overwhelmingly rejected the $1.9 million Proposition 2 1/2 tax override, as 1,892 voted against the measure while 842 supported it. By virtue of the override failing, the town likely will proceed with the $1.6 million trash fee approved during the winter and additional cuts may need to be made.

Town Meeting is slated for May 2.

How sad that only 2700+ residents voiced their opinion by voting.
